| Just wondering what people think of Satellite Internet? I know my wireless Internet card isn't the most reliable connection, and I can't see how Satellite wouldn't have the same problems. They say it's high speed, but that doesn't mean it really is high speed.

| From what ive heard satellite connections are fairly fast, but they have slow response times, so once the download is going it is fairly fast but they wouldnt be good for games because of the lag/ping. |

| That's what I thought, actually. Can't have a lag, so I'll pass on this until the technology is more reliable. Thanks for the info. ![]() It's damned expensive too. |

| The quality of the connection on your 802.11x card is not going to reflect the quality of a satellite connection. They use different frequencies and the hardware for sending and receiving is drastically different. Quote:

| Actually, a temperamental wireless connection will only make satellite speed more frustrating. Not only would transmission be slow from the satellite receiver to the router, but there's additional lag time from the router to your wireless modem. I wouldn't want to think about satellite hooked up to 11b. I've heard that satellite speeds are abominably slow to begin with. The highest I've seen for most of them is 500/80 Kb/s down/up, and that's not a constant rate. It used to be worse, but they won't fix all the interference issues. |

We have Direct TV, and so far (knock on wood) we haven't had any problems in cloudy or stormy weather. The key with satellite TV is to get an initial signal strength of 90 or better. Then, if the signal drops, it's not enough to affect the signal you receive. | |

| i have satellite internet because i live in the middle of nowhere where they dont run cable to anywhere near me. the download is alright, about 200kb/s maximum, the company says 312kb/s but i never get that high... and the lag on games is HORRIBLE, because the upload SUCK, becuase of what the other ppl said about the signal taking forever to be sent out to space then back again. and yes it is very expensive, although, i dont think i can ever go back to dial up, so its worth the money bc dial up sucks soooooooo much
