| i have a creative 24 bit sound blaster external sound card (not only do i own two and have tried both AND the internal motherboard sound card (soundmax) and all 3 have the prob... but heres the thing, the whole comp seems to lag, even the mouse and the sound stutters whenever theres a slight increase in activity... Ex: i turn on a song and let the stuttering do its thing, it will have periods of no stuttering and then periods of stuttering and if i moved this window for example or open another one, it will lag up, it does it on both the soundcards (as i said, technically all 3 becuz i have to 24 bit externals... one for home and another for travel or emergency) and had this problem a year or two ago on a sony vaio i used to own but i i fixed it somehow... i cant remember how... anyways sorry if this made no sense, ive been up all day and night with little or no sleep working on this... and im reallly reeealllly tired... u kno how that goes...: "hey lets go do shit... awww wait i cant, i gotta fix this pc... oh well... this shouldnt take too long...." *6 hours later....* so plz... HELP! Thanx!!!! may the 420 gods be with us! ![]() btw when it lags it also shows a spike (like all the wayy 100 percent sometimes for a sec or two) on the cpu ususage chart in ctrl -alt -delete

| Well if it happens with the internal sound card as well, there must be a OS problem of some sort. Do you have the correct drivers installed? What is your OS? Does this happen right after boot up, or develop after the computer has been on for a while? --Fight4TheRight

| Before delving into hardware or driver issues, I'd do a full scan for virii and spyware, making sure to remove anything/everything that might be found.... After that, remove drivers & any software related to your sound card, as well as the onboard sound (if that's installed). Reboot, go into the BIOS and make sure the onboard audio is disabled, then boot into Windoze and reinstall the drivers & software for the sound card. What you're experiencing could be related to damn near anything, from a hardware failure to a corrupted driver. Good luck! ![]()

| If the internal sound codec is active and installed, then it might interfere with the external. It's not often that integrated sound being "messed up" is the case, because it would implicate motherboard damage that would be noticable elsewhere. It's more frequent that onboard sound is just crap. |

When you turn it back on, you should see a message similar to Press <DEL> to enter Setup. It may specify a differnt key than <DEL>. Other manufacturers may use <F1>, <F2>, <F10>, <INS> or other keys, but <DEL> is pretty common. PRess it repeatedly, about once every second. Don't hold it down!. You should get to a BIOS Setup menu. From there, you're pretty much on your own, as all BIOS setup menus are different. Looks for a section for "Integrated Peripherals". In there you should be able to find the onboard audio and disable it. ![]() | |
