| i just got fedora core 5 from school, i go to itt tech, and disk two didnt quite work. so i went to fedora core 6 and downloaded all the disks and burned all the iso's. when i put the five cd's in, one after another, after [disc]five, it tells me to insert disc -99. i am lost, so now i am pursuing a 3.3gb download of a dvd version. does anyone maybe have any suggestions, i would like to familiarize myself with linux, and preferably a full, reliable one, maybe with a dl location... otherwise, does anyone know what or where disc -99 is? thanks guys[and girls of course!] |

| Go to Barnes & Noble and buy a book on RedHat Linux, the usually will come with a RedHat CD or DVD in the book jacket, full installation and you're all set. Along with all the info you'll ever need.

| no more worries guys, after a couple more hours of research, i figured out to just do the default configuration, only using two disks, and it will load. later i just go to add/remove software. an then get all the extras from there. oh yea, i already have the discs and linux+ Fundamentals and Certifications. its a book from my school. so i have material i just needed help installing. but hey, as long as i only got one post, i cant figure out how to get mp3 support and that is really irritating since all my music is mp3's. like 50gb worth now! so yea, i gotts to figure that one out. |

| MP3 support should be there with no extra fuss. In my dealings with Linux, the default player works fine. If all else fails, VLC media player is a pretty good multi purpose player, including MP3. --Fight

| Yah, I used Mandrake 6.0 back when it was brand new and the "Add / Remove Software" feature has a few media players available to install during the system installation. |

| Fedora Core 5 and 6 did not ship with Mp3 capability. Open up the Terminal, "Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal" and type: SU Then your Root password and enter then "yum install xmms" this will connect to the internet and install XMMS (X Multimedia Something) and when thats done installing type "yum install xmms-mp3" After that installs, you've got mp3 support. Then "yum install xmms-avi" And Voila, AVI and DivX support as well. Hope it helps. |
