Ok so I had Kazaa and it made my computer die. I tried to download Limewire, and my computer didn't want that to happen. I tried Frostwire ( I think that's what it was called?) and it said I had to have Java, and Java said that I had to have something else, so I said fuck it and went to Google and typed in "free music downloading software" or something like that. I got directed to this Morpheus program thing and I'm downloading it right now. But i just thought that it would be wise to try and find out a little more information on this program before using it, cause I don't want ANOTHER crashed computer....that would make a grand total of 18478927 bazillion..

What exactly are you using the programs for? Just music?

And are you trying to get single files, or do you like getting whole albums? Either way, torrents are definitely a safer way to go. With the right program (a guide to torrents is in the link in my sig), you can select/deselect which files you wish to download.

So say you just want one song.. well, you have to find the album on whatever torrent site you use, and then in the program, you simple choose to only download the one file you want from that album. A lot of the invite only places.. Demonoid, Oink.. they will be some of the safest, as they are good about deleting fakes/viruses when they get reports.

I avoid downloading programs like Limewire or Kazaa like the plague now, because that's just what all those programs are.

As for Morpheus... it's been around a LONG time. Pretty sure it has been around since before Limewire, and possible before Kazaa as well.

Soulseek is one I've heard mentioned before, though I don't know much about it.

Also, torrents will allow you to download things other than just music in a MUCH safer manner as well. Limewire and other popular file sharing networks are FULL of virus filled software and fake files.

I gotta agree.....as soon as I learned the basics of torrents, limewire got deleted off my computer and i've never missed it. Torrents seem to be faster, safer, and all around a better experience than any of the various p2p programs.

Yup. Limewire is atleast better then morpheous and other crappy p2p's but if you want to bew safe, you gotta go with torrents.

a lot of p2p apps are bundled w/ spyware. either try torrents or check out opensource p2p apps such as:

emule - emule-project.net
shareaza - shareaza.com

May I recommend something else - Peerguardian 2. It blocks unwanted IP addresses from accessing your computer. Very simple and helpful program.

What problems are you having? iTunes can be quirky at times.
