| I decided to put this in Tech, because while there's a video associated with it,l I thought that maybe we could have a discussion about not just the iPhone itself, but the concept of single carrier smartphones, and overall the evolution of Apple from the "Think Different" computer and software maker of the 90's to the "Microsoft" of the new millenia... What do you guys think? Has Apple turned a corner from "Think Different" to what it's doing now? Bricking iPhones for changing carriers? A while back, I remember Steve Jobs saying something along the lines of: Apple shouldn't exist to make money from it's consumers, it should exist to make it's consumers want to give it money. |

| I really wanted a smart phone... I was going to get a PPC that had all the windows mobile aps, touch screen, wifi...the whole nine... Turned out that it also needed a 100$/mo service plan up here in Alaska to make it go... I ditched my POS Motorolla V400 (Ive had it since it first came out back in 02'-03...so almost 5 years now) Now, it won't hold a charge longer than 24 hours, the earpiece in it works 50% of the time making me yell, "I can't HEAR you!"--and only my car charger will charge it to boot. So, dismayed at the PPC (pocket PC/PDA) option off the table--I went with this phone: ![]() ![]() Dosen't have all the gizmos, but it cost me HELLA less. I also paired it up with this LG bluetooth headset (smallest best buy had) ![]() I have my video ipod, as well as my MP4 2gb watch: ![]() ...that'll play music and video...as well as transmit FM to my car radio...oh it also has a slew of games and other PDA like functions. Crazy ass China-men from Hong-Kong selling these on ebay for less than 100$. I'm not sure if i *need* an iphone. Maybe an xbox 360 though...

| I worked for AT&T and received calls from customers who were activating their iPhone. It seems like a cool phone.. unfortunately it's not available where I am, as I am in Canada. It's an interesting phone, lots of cool features. Doesn't allow for picture messaging which is strange. |

| It's a waste of money is what it is. I'd either (a) wait for Apple to release a couple more fixes and improvements to the phone, (b) wait for Google, or (c) check out the Nokia E70: ![]() |

| iPhone a waste of money? Hardly. It is truly awesome. It cost me little more than a new Blackberry or other 'so called' smart-phones. I have a love/hate relationship with technology which translates well because while I've always gotten off on it I constantly approach it with healthy scepticism. I put off getting my latest phone thinking I would go with RIM's new wi-fi version of the Curve but when my carrier said they weren't going to offer it I once more decided to consider the iPhone. Fast forward to today and I am pleased beyond measure. A quantum breakthrough in phone/media/internet portability. A work of art. Yea, it has it's problems but one of the things I've found over the years is that everything does. People love to complain about anything. Of course this ultimately is a good thing (as long as we recognize it as such) because it continually raises the bar. Regarding your question, Trocrisp, about Apple and their general philosophy and/or business tactics. I think they suck frankly. But then, I always have. That's the very reason back in '84 I opted to go the "PC" route. For no other reason than Apple's (Steve Jobs) holier than thou attitude manifesting in his control freak closed architecture. But you know, like I said earlier, there's always some axe to grind it seems. No matter what. Just a matter of degree. So there it is for now. Steve Jobs' continuing commitment to closed architecture is sheer idiocy. And I fucking love my iPhone. Oh well, what's a poor boy to do ...
