| My friends computer wont recognize the mouse. Its a Gateway with Xp. I tried a USB mouse and the old school kind, niether worked. Tried installing the driver. Didnt help. Tried booting in safe mode, still didnt work. ANy other ideas? I tried calling gateway tech support, and they wanted 59 bucks to troubleshoot (the computers not even two years old). i tried to ask to speak to a supervisor but none were available. Any help?

| Gateway is probably charging because the PC is out of warranty... I suggest booting into Safe mode and deleting any/all mouse drivers. If there is software from Logitech or somesuch for some fancy mouse, remove that from Add/Remove Programs. Reboot with the mouse attached and see if it detects it.

| i have an emachine witch is part of gateway and the warentee on it os over a year expired. use the gayeway tech chat. ive been getting free support with my warenteeless emachine for the 2 years ive had it with a one year warrentee. try the chat. dont use the phone number. if possible use the pc with the problem cause then they can remote acess the pc and diagnose the problem. again they have been doing this with my emachine for a year now with no warentee throgh the gateway tech chat.

| Please try to use the mouse after removing all external peripherals. Also, you can try to test the mouse on other system, to see if the mouse actually works. Or a known good mouse on your Gateway system. Has Windows been installed recently partner? Have you tried the mouse on other ports? USB is controlled by the system chipset, you may need to update the notebook system software, and the chipset drivers. Good luck! |
