I don't do PC maintenance.

I turn off all my virus scanners and anything that slows my computer down, and run it at top speed until it catches something nasty and falls to pieces.

then I take it to my friend ben, and he fixes it.

Being a professional geek, I don't do maintenance.
I simply nuke & repave every so often.

I have my virus scan set to run nightly while I'm at work. I run Ccleaner probably 3x a week, and occasionally scan using spybot s&d. Physical care of my computer is where I tend to slack off. Popped open the case the other day and realized it'd been quite some time since I'd done so, judging by the number of dust bunnies found. Of course, this aspect of maintence has dropped dramtically from when i was a cgarette smoker. I was sickened when I opened my the first PC I owned and saw the amount of nasty smoke-related build-up in there. In all honesty, I don't understand how the thing was still functioning! It was one of many things that inspired me to eventually quit.....June 7th will be a full two years of no tobacco smoking for me....aside from the occasional blunt anyway!!!

CCleaner is a must have maintanence tool. Another must have is Diskeeper. Having your HDD defrag automatically and on the fly is a good tool. Well worth the $30

I know a lot about computers but I never use that stuff. I just be safe and don't download crap, and virus check questionable files before I open them. If you do that and run firefox you will be fine for at least 6 months, and when you get a problem, assuming you backup important data (I email all my documents to my webmail), you can just reinstall your OS, only taking about 2 hours or so, and you save so much time on not constantly working on your pc. Also, once you reformat your computer will be like new!!

Doesn't sound like a wise plan to me at all there bro. Computers need maintenance just like cars do...those HDD get all bunged up after a while. Besides, as ingrained as computers are in most people's lives nowadays, not downloading anything and sending all important files to a webmail isn't a viable option.

And I maintain that reformatting is such a bitch that, unless you are happy with tha default settings, it does NOT work tha same and takes MUCH more than 2 hours. Nuke and repave, in my book, is a killswitch option. Count yourself lucky if it works for you for sure.

The car analogy doesn't really work because having crap on your computer can just be fixed completely with a reformat. A car that needs service can damage the components inside the car, requiring costly replacement.
