A Marijuana.com Event : A Discussion with L.E.A.P. Education Specialist - Howard J. Wooldridge L.E.A.P. Education Specialist - Howard J. Wooldridge This should be a very interesting and informative discussion Place : Drug War Headline News Forum Date : Saturday, March 14th Time : 1pm - 3pm, EST Thead Topic : How to End Cannabis Prohibition
First I'd like to start by saying hello and welcome to the board to L.E.A.P. Education Specialist - Howard J. Wooldridge. What's up Howard It's a few minutes befor the hour but befor we get into the nuts and bolts of the discussion on How to End Cannabis Prohibition, I'd like to ask the question, how was it that you came to be involved in the battle to end the prohibition of cannabis, Howard?
Afternoon all - i was never a drug warrior from the first day i put on a badge and gun. I never busted anyone for pot - as a stand alone charge. When the drug war took off in the mid 80s, i liked it less because my colleagues began spending most of their free time trying to bust Michigan State students who had a baggie under their seat.
Theocracy - indeed money, lack of money, at the state levels is THE driving force. Congresswoman Sanchez this week asked for the feds to allow CA to become a 'Pilot Program' state to regulate and tax MJ... Sadly, it has taken massive, financial suffering to see real progres..
Sorry i was late...it took a bit of time (15 minutes) using a compass and sextant to find my way here. sad face here...howard
The second part of the reason i became involved...after leaving police work, i needed something important to do...since i could no longer bust DUIs and child molesters, ending modern prohibition was the best way to redirect current cops to real public safety issues.
The reception on Capitol Hill was one of surprised shock. No one in reform had a clue this was coming or that Sanchez would be the ONE to propose the common sense idea of making one state a 'guinea pig' Pilot Program. We will all be on the Hill on Monday to take her idea and craft an actual House Bill to end fed prohibition for just CA.
I'm very excited to hear how this all plays out, as I'm sure we all are. Thanks for coming to talk to us at mj.com it really is a pleasure!!
Wow, This would absolutely floor me Having experienced 3 1/2 decades of this prohibition first hand, this would be amazing. Edit : I was just wondering how that could be done. After all, I could see people in other States feeling somewhat slighted if it was only legalized in Cali.
Howard - welcome to Marijuana.com. Could you share some of your thoughts on how we, as activists, can best apply ourselves to the effort to get marijuana legalized?
Welcome Howard, Will there be a day when people like myself who have little or no faith in the AMA, be able to self medicate as needed without legally being required to submit to doctor exams to justify our medical use?
