Medical users in Canada are permitted to grow marijuana, but I'm pretty sure the average smoker is shit out of luck legally. Although the laws aren't strictly enforced anyway a lot of the time...

Why would you try to grow a male plant anyway? Female plants produce the most bud.

Male plants hold very little THC.

This has nothing to with THC/getting high.

    The value from the plant...

A friendly reminder to keep this discussion on the legal ramifications of possessing/growing a plant. So please don't let it drift into a conversation on how to grow :)

I can understand breaking the law in order to get something to smoke. I don't understand breaking the law to have a pretty plant to look at. Besides, the male plants aren't all that pretty.

I in no way intended to use this thread as a mode to discuss Growing. I know better than that.

Buzzby.. have you seen the nutritional values to a hemp seed?

The question still stands... is it Illegal to possess a Male Marijuana plant in the country of Canada?

I believe this was already answered for you.

Male/female/whatever...if you're not a medical user, it is not legal to grow or possess a marijuana plant in Canada. (The laws are not strictly enforced, but that doesn't make it legal.)

Your question has been answered. The gender of the plant doesn't matter.

And just so you know, males don't produce seeds. Males produce pollen.

Marijuana is marijuana...regardless of sex or potency, a plant is a plant is a plant, and if cauight, you'll be punished just as severely as someone with a female plant. I can't find ANY mention of lesser penalties or an abscence of penalites regarding male cannabis plants. Justify it however you want, but its still illegal and can easily get you arrested.

It truly is unbelievable- the extent of the law on this plant. Quite literally the male cannabis plant doesnt do much? strong fibres maybe from the male plants are desirable? or is it just meant to reproduce?

I was always under the assumption if it contained no THC it wasnt Marijuana (obviously still Cannabis), rather called Hemp.

Sorry for the confusion. I am now in the know.

So when I eat my shelled hemp seeds, those come from a female plant or a male/female plant that does contain THC? This is all loopy.

Imagine it like humans.... males make the 'sperm' (pollen), females the 'eggs' (flowers), and they make the babies (seeds).

In every instance I'm aware of, hempseed sold in stores has been sterilized completely.

If you can get a male cannabis plant to produce seeds, you'll be up for a Nobel Prize! :rofl2:

Non-sterile hemp seed is considered to be marijuana and is just as illegal. Selling it would be a violation of federal and state laws (in the US). Viable hemp seeds are legal in Canada, but it is illegal to germinate them. People have been convicted of possession when found holding only a few viable seeds.

    Not true in canada

"Commercial hemp is finally legal in Canada. This means that Canadian farmers can now grow and sell certified low-THC strains of cannabis, with a permit issued by the Ministry of Health. This is a major step forward for the entire cannabis movement, and is a cause for great celebration. Congratulations are due to the cannabis activists, hemp farmers and many others who have pushed to revive this ancient crop.
Yet even with this in mind, we still have a long way to go until cannabis is the free plant it ought to be. The fledgling Canadian hemp industry has some major governmental hurdles to leap before it will be able to take off and fly."

    Quoeted from cannabisculture.

Hemp is legal in canada. So certain strains of cannibis with low THC content are legal to grow in canada. you'll need to check online for which strains.
