I just subbed today for the first time and it went very smooth. For any of you that are really scared about doing it, don't be. Once you get over the mental nervousness, physically its a breeze.

My question has to do with split specimens. They did not put my urine into two viles. There was a line on the custody form that asked if the specimen was split and the guy put "NO". My specimen was just put into a large-ish tube that I initialed.

Why are some specimens split and some aren't? Am I fine and worrying about nothing?

I think that they're only split if they test positive. One is sent to GCMS (or another form of testing) and the other is put in a freezer.

i think they're split if that is what the company/person requests.

and, my understanding is that the split is not for gc/ms confirmation - it is, instead, if someone tests (+) and claims "it can't be, i request a retest", the send the split sample to another lab.

that way, it is the same urine, from the same void, different lab. if someone tests (+) again after shouting for a retest, they look like a real tool.
