Hello and thanks to the respect you give to parents on this site... Anyway here's my concern. My 21 year old daughter HAS to pass a drug test for a new job.. She was given a heads up but admitted to smoking "a little on July 5th. She has been pumping fluids and exercising 3-4 x week sine then. She is small and has a very fast metabolism. We did a home test yesterday first am void which was faint but negative.. I am crazy over this and want to know if I should test her again as the actual test is next week. Thank-you to all especially SEC you have been very helpful and informative. I need to sleep all info deeplyl appreciated. Also the test is held at a drug testing facility. Do they mostly use the 50 cutoff?

I believe most employers use 50 ng/mL cutoffs. I'm guessing by the fact she only admitted to smoking only on July 5th means she is not a chronic user. That, combined with her body type and the fact that she exercises means she should probably be fine. A faint line is still a negative, btw.

another home test may help alleviate any anxiety. also, remember that exercising presents more THC metabolites into the body, so she should stop exercising a couple days ahead of time to decrease flow of THC in body.

If she only smoked that one time, on July 5th, she should have nothing to worry about. The effects of a single smoking session on a clean system are usually below test thresholds within 3 to 5 days.

My question for you, is this: Is your daughter being totally honest with you regarding her drug use? If she tested negative for THC on a home test now, then next week she will test negative for the employer if she doesn't use marijuana again.

Make sure she isn't using anything else though. If she isn't, you can relax and breathe easy.

Thanks for the info, yes Sec I believe she is being honest as I had warned her that this test was coming and she did admit to the use that day. Anyway I had her do another home test this am and that was a pass a different test with another light colored line. My concern now is that they will do the 20 cutoff....What's your thought Sec.....

Employers do not change the criteria of their testing for one or two applicants. They use the same test for all.

Also, it is much more expensive and requires an HR department with pretty good working knowledge of how drug tests work to ask for a lower cutoff. Most HR people have no idea how drug testing works. They know they get a report that says either negative or positive.

Don't worry where there is no cause. Your daughter passed two tests and should be just fine for the employer's test.

Thanks again for the info....test is Monday I'll let you know, still nervous but hopeful. This mom doesn't approve but do not keep my head in the sand when it comes to my kids. I found this website very informative and helpful.
