| My creatinine levels are on the low side on the validity testing (at home), but the specific gravity is consistent with a well-hydrated person. I'm also throwing ketones due to hypoglycemia... I've been sick and not eating well. I'm doing better now, but still ketotic. Diastix results for the medically-inclined: SpGr (refractometer) 1.006 pH: 7.0 WBC: Trace Nitrites: Trace/10 Protein: 1+/30 Glucose: Negative (Blood glucose at time of testing: 65, slightly hypoglycemic) Ketones: Large amount (due to low blood sugar, body consuming fat-- about to crash, having probs regulating glucose to stay up) Urobilinogen: Negative Bilirubin: Negative Blood: Negative to slight trace; sediment exam= 4-5 RBC/HpF; occasional WBC/HpF; mixed baceria 3+; transitional epithelials. Neg for crystals/casts. Adulterant/validity: Creatinine lt. brown-- like the 10 spot. All other adulterants= negative; SpGr on strip is within range. Oh, the THC test was negative and I have no other reason to suspect any positives for off-topics. QUESTION: Would the test be reported as NEGATIVE/DILUTE if the SpGr is at 1.006 but the creatinine is above 5? |

| I did nothing to alter the SpGr and took nothing to bring back any yellow color. Those results were a natural sample. In short, if my piss looked like water, it probably was and I didn't test it on the home drug test. If it looked like iced tea, I knew it was too concentrated and didn't test it as I knew it would still be dirty. I paced my drinking to where I had a light yellow color to my urine, tested it on the refractometer, then ran the drug test. It happened to be at 1.010 so I figured that gave me some head room for the dilution part. I'm telling you-- invest in something to test SpGr and adulteration if you can. Validity strips can be had on-line for about $25-30 or so for a jar of about 30. Or, use a refractometer. While the refractometer doesn't test for adulterating substances, it does measure specific gravity, which tells you if you're too dilute. If you're smart, you aren't adulterating your piss anyway-- you're only getting it to a level where the THC won't show up in your urine at a detectable level. You can get refractometers for this purpose through some of the on-line auctions, or through medical supply houses, or even through aquarium supply places. I like the refractometer because it's reusable and it gives you a real number instead of just a color square that may be off a bit, especially if you're right on the edge. See, we don't even use that square in veterinary medicine because it ISN'T accurate (for our needs, anyway). DO NOT add ANYTHING to your piss to alter specific gravity! One, it's too hard to do accurately without risking the specimen being too far out of range. And two, labs test for that sort of thing and if they find it, you fail. Just don't do it. Invest in a device or strips to test it yourself, and pace your fluid intake to maintain as close to a good SpGr as you can without testing dirty or dilute. Key word: PRACTICE!! |
