| Insurance won't cover a DOT physical. Your best bet is to find a physician who will give you a DOT physical but bill your insurance as a regular check-up/physical. Employment medicals aren't covered under insurance because they are seen as elective; not medically necessary. |

| Very very good to know that, Sec. Luckily, it looks like I don't have to go down that road. Yesterday, I asked a co-worker to schedule me an appointment at the medical clinic that my company uses and pays for. I asked her to schedule me for a DOT physical. I told her there was no need to waste company money on a drug test because a medical card does not require one. I listened to her place the call, and the person at the clinic did not have any problems with it. I think I may have dodged the bullet with this one. But I will wait til after my appointment on Friday to do my celebration dance.... (safety dance)

| Good News! Today I had my DOT physical. Although they asked about it a couple times, I did not need to take a drug test. They found it rather odd that my company was paying for a physical and not a UA, but I explained to them that I took a UA for pre-employment when I started with my company, and now the company just needs me to have a medical card. Now the card will be mailed to my office next week. Looking back, I could have easily subbed during this appointment if I had to. They have you piss first, and then go down the hall for the physical afterward.... ...anyway, bullet successfully dodged! I hope my account might help others in the same position. |
