An ace bandage is an elastic bandage that is used for sprains, etc. (It's usually flesh colored.) It is sometimes used to wrap around the upper thigh to keep the bottle of sub'd urine in place on the inside of the thigh. The bottle is kept next to the skin to keep the temperature up once it's heated. The bandage does not heat... it's just a way to get the bottle into the lab.

Last time around I used quick fix 4.0 and heated it for 10 secs in the microwave, and then crotched it (with no heating pad attached). Was able to maintain 94 degrees for hours...most of the day. Right before the test was crossing legs, etc to make sure lots of skin contact was going on to maintain the temp. Hope this info helps others out, I was very worried about the temp but after a few days crotching it (trial runs) and checking the temp every hour it stayed at 94 degrees.

I was worried if I used the heating pad it would get too warm? Any thoughts on using the heating pad vs. just crotching it?

Hand warmers are recommended several times in this forum. Use it with the pad away from the skin.

In my practice run (crotching) the bottle temp (strip thermometer taped to bottle) read: 102 degress. However, digital thermometer reading of the actual fluid came to 96.4 and cooled fairly quick ( and I don't have air conditioning).

start temp = 96.4
after 1 minute = 95.7
after 2 minutes = 95.2
after 3 minutes = 94.6
after 4 minutes = 94.1

lol....I just wanted to test this myself just in case no one was around when I came out of the bathroom and have to wait at the counter. Although, from what I've read...testers usually stand outside the door so this isn't a big concern for me.

PS-I had microwaved for aprox 7-10 sec first.

thanks for the post cque, I always wondered if maybe the temp strip was actually warmer than the substance in the cup and I was maybe getting a misread. But last time I used QF the temp strip on the cup said 94 and the person checked "Temp ok" after I was done (she took it immediately).

I may try testing the substance with a digital thermo also. Thanks for the advice on hand warmers, may go pick up a few, can't hurt to have 1 in there just in case.

In keeping my 4.0 hot. In the past the drug camper would pull in the yard, we would heat our 4.0 in a microwave about 20 mins before the test. Now I have to drive an hour first. If I heat up the 4.0 at home will it stay hot for 2 hours. Can I put in in hot water before the test and can I use my car heater. It will be 88-90 degree day on mondy. So it will be hot. Will my cart heater work. What do you think?
