Sorry Sec3, I got the 8 hour rule from here. You know I did wonder about that because I have seen them store a Friday sample in a refrigerator and I have seen Friday samples tossed into a pile in the corner. I always figured that once you got it to them and if they chose to let it sit around then that is better than you letting it sit around because they would know that they did it. But now that doesn't really make sense because it isn't tested at the collection site; it is usually sent out and the testing site wouldn't know who let it sit around or when it sat around. So are you saying our 8 hour rule is wrong?

Thanks to all who have contributed to this site. I actually took a home test for marijuana - passed with flying colors. It had been 4 weeks since I'd smoked. I took the test and the lab called and said I failed. I was dumbfounded. Thanks to this site, I found out about the latest technology with gasification testing and that its much more sensitive than the "emit" type you buy at the drug store. I'll never fall for their 100% negatve accuracy claim again!

Anyway, though I failed the test, the recruiter (who will make about $40,000 on me over the next year at this job - imagine that, he really, really wants me to pass!) said I could take another test, but I had to pass.

From everything I read, the substitution method is best. I know it will be unobserved. I bought a small 2 oz bottle and a digital thermometer and have been practicing all day. It stay well in my double-"whities" and isn't that uncomfortable. I have tested its temp several times since 9am this morning and it consistently stays at 96 - 97.5 degrees and from what I can tell, that is OK.

Thanks for the insight as to how long a clean donor's specimen will stay good - I will collect it 18 hours prior to the test, but I will immediately refrigerate and keep regrigerated until a couple of hours before the test, warm it and keep it tucked in my "whities". I feel confident. I will post the results next week.

It would be helpful if you could provide a little more info. Was it a 50ng cut-off test? Did you do any dilution?

Like I said, it is probably best if it is refrigerated if you are keeping it for more than a day, but I don't think it is absolutely necessary. No one from the labs or the MRO's office has ever called our facility and advised us that our specimen's are "old". We have collected late Friday and since there is no pick-up on Saturday or Sunday, the specimens have to sit until late Monday before they even leave town. I do think that having the specimen in an air tight container is a "must", and keep the specimen no longer than a couple of days. Also, take into consideration the day you are taking the test. If your appointment is late Friday or Saturday, and you are subbing using 2 day old pee, by the time it is tested, it could be up to 5 days old. -just something to consider.

Well i had planned on using the dilution method, but after practicing and testing myself..No chance of a clean pee coming from myself. So i went for a test this morning with a condom full of my roomates clean piss. Stopped at the nearest gas station and got boiling hot water from the coffee machine..I sat outside in the street and tested the temp, which was too low..I let the condom sit in the water until it hit about 98 degrees. Went inside and was taking the test within 10 minutes...My sample did NOT read 90 degrees and LUCKILY they are lettin me take a retest.. Ive read through this thread a bit but can someone tell me what is the BEST way to make sure my sample stays at the right temp?? I had 2 pairs of tighty whities on and had it in the "right position" from what i could tell...I really could use some adivce on this

And sorry for not reading it before i went today...Can i be sure this wont make my test turn out dirty or am i better off just making sure my sample is the right temp?

I'm surprised you didn't get the temp right. I am curious exactly how you secured the sample and where. Some people using the piss wash to warm the cup have said they did fail. I have subbed a lot and never had a problem with it being too cold, if anything a little too warm because I use a 110 degree water bath before securing it.

Followup: Went with 2oz bottle twixt my jewels and upper leg. No problems. Actually the person who I gave the sample to NEVER measured the temp at all ... saw her just automatically check the Yes box that said the temp was between 90 - 100. But like I said in an earlier post, I practiced for a day and it was always between 94 - 98 degrees.

My recruiter called today to say I passed. Yeeeeaaaaahhhh!!!! This IS the way. I'll never fail again and I'll never sweat it again.

I had the condom under my scrot with 2 pairs of tighties on..It was my fault, i only warmed it up to about 96 in the car in the hot water bath, than had to wait between 5-10 before i used the lab..But i sat with my legs crossed and tried to keep the warmth in there.The pee was fresh as could be, got it just minutes before i left the house. I did wrap a paper towl around the condom not sure if that would help or hurt the situation, i wanted it for after in case i made a mess or something like that..

Question comes down to this..i gotta go again am i better off using my dirty urine to make the temp on the cup right, dumping it and than using the clean sample, or going for the hot water bath again and just making sure i get it up over 100 degrees this time.
