I had a test and a physical for a city job the other day. I read every page of the sub-club thread and found it to be very helpful. I decided to detox, AND come strapped with a sub. I heard from someone that had just done this that you had to put on "patient shorts" before you tested so you couldnt sub. I was worried about having to take pants off and turn my head and cough. Obviously he would have noticed that the 2oz bottle of quick fix was not supposed to be attached to me. What I decided to do was wear a swimsuit under my kinda big adidas pants. The swimsuit had regular pockets on each hip (like where your front pockets are on your jeans) so I put the bottle in the right pocket and then stapled the pocket over to inside my crotch. (there was extra room in the pocket and the whole pocket moved from the front of my thigh to in between my legs easily.) I made sure you couldnt see it when I walked, and I made sure I could get it in and out easily.
I got there, and they got started with the physical. Tested my ears,and sight, etc... Then the lady handed me patient shorts and said I needed to wear them for the test. She said I could leave my undies on, but to take my pants off. she then left the room. These patient shorts were so huge i couldve just rolled my pant legs up under them, but I took off my pants and left my swimsuit on, and then I met her outside the door where she walked me to the bathroom and told me not to flush or run the water. She asked for 1/2 cup if possible. I locked the door behind myself. waited a moment, then quietly pulled it out, dumped it (not squirted) in the cup. carefully screwed the cap back on and put it back in my pocket. the temp was fine, so I walked out. She was right beside the door, listening, I presume. I told her that was all I could squeeze out, and she said that it was fine. She put it into two bottles while I was signing stuff, she sealed them and said she was going to refrigerate them and send them to the lab. I then had to go get blood drawn at another place, and return for the rest of my physical later that day.
So the doctor wasnt there in the morning, but if he was, and if I did have to turn and cough, I am confident I couldve pulled my swimsuit down with the patient shorts just like I did with my underwear later that afternoon. It has been 4 days since then, and I havent heard from the lab. (Which I can only assume is a good thing.) I'll post any updates as they happen...

I recenlty had a combination drug test + physical. Mine went alot differently, though; The order was reversed... They had me submit my urine sample, then go back to the waiting room, then go in for the physical. Was your test a DOT? Mine was a non-DOT, so I would guess that might explain the different procedure. The test was for pre-employment, and the test location was a hospital. Also, the job I was applying for was in the private sector, and I noticed you said you were going in for a "city job". That could explain it also. I am very interested to know the reason for this difference in procedures, if anyone knows.

It was a non-DOT pre-employment test. It was for a city job that apparently didnt warrant the additional x-rays that were optional. Apparently I just missed the rectal exam, too. because when I walked in the room to wait for the doctor, there was an intimidatingly big tube of KY jelly on a stack of paper towels when I got in. Thank God it didnt get used.... This wasnt at a hospital, rather it was in the city's own testing facility for pre-employment and return to work testing.

Still no word back, so I guess I would have heard from an MRO by now if there was a problem...

hello all lemme just say this is a great site! and thanks to all the patriots here!
i am going to be taking a DOT physical some time in the next year, im not quite sure when and i dont want to stop smoking for a whole year. so i plan on subing, my only concern is the dot test has a drug urinalisys and a diabetes screen where they use a strip of some sort of litmus paper to check protien levels or something.

so im wondering if im gonna have to give two seprate samples???
i dont want to have to carry in two bottles.

i will also be getting a complete physical at the time and it will be tricky enough to get the one bottle in the piss room without the doc finding it during the ball check.
any advice??

ps ive subed 3 times in the past with no problems, but these were non dot and had no diabetes "dip" test.

As far as Tornadoes' post, I would like to hear responses to this also. Another thing...
I recently subbed for a non-DOT pre-employment UA, passed, and got the job. However, at some point I will be required to get a CDL class-B license. Since I was already tested by this company, will they require I take another? I assume that they would test me again, this time DOT, before I get the CDL license. Same thing goes for the physical... I got a quick pre-emp physical, but I assume they would make me get a complete DOT physical. Has anybody been in the same position? I will note that my job is not a driving job, but they require I get the CDL as part of a training program. After I get the CDL, I will not have to drive a truck ever again for the company (most likely). Thanks in advance for any useful response.

This should tell you exactly what to expect for a DOT physical.

Non-DOT pre-employment physicals don't follow any regulation, rhyme or reason as far as the order of the exam -vs- drug test.
