my first day is tomorrow...

here's my quick situation:

this company was the only call back i got for an interview, got the job, went to orientation and found out they randomly test UGH!

ever since then i haven't been real happy to start work there, i enjoy smoking enough to where i don't really want to work there since they randomly test

PROS:

the pay would be good for a first, out-of-college job...closer to home...


CONS:

can't smoke since they randomly test

i wanna enjoy life without having the nagging thought of a random test on any given day...

holding quickfix on me daily doesnt sound fun, either

Yes, work there until you are tested. On average, you probably would work there for 2 years until you are tested. You would have 2 years experience and 2 years pay before you leave the company.

keep looking for another job. On Friday, CNN reported that there were over 500,000 new claims for unemployment last week alone. Good luck!

this company only has 400 people in the entire company (including executives)

i believe they test monthly...

so assume they test 20% a year, thats 80 people a year and almost 7 people a month

i dont wanna risk it and end up losing my job one day

dont want that on my record...got fired for failing a random drug test

Even if I didn't smoke, I wouldn't work for a company that does tests, random or otherwise.
If a firm decides to do search and seizure on their employees, they will be a bitch to work for, in general.

whats a good way to know FOR SURE if the company tests ?

the company handbook has a small section for random testing and a small section for sensitive area testing

the random testing says 'acknowledgment of this policy is all that is needed to perform random testing'

this company is mostly line workers making frozen food...

i would be working in the acct department with no contact of the food

why must the whole company suffer

The way the economy is right now, there is no way I'd put marijuana over a good source of income with benefits.

However, I do not work, so this doesn't really apply to me.

100% agreement with that.
Even at the times I've ceased smoking, I have passed on a few positions that required testing, though, because It's so insidious. Kind of like selling your soul.
One of my favorite Robert Wyatt songs talks about employers that can't face the fact that they need workers more than workers need them.

If you were going to work at a job for the rest of your life that didn't perform random drug tests you better get used to the fast good/restaurant industry. I've never had a job in my adult life that didn't drug test. If you want a job that will pay the bills and still afford you a few luxuries then you are going to have to contend with drug tests throughout your working life. Sad but true unfortunately.

The good news is that drug tests can be beat quite easily if you take the time to educate yourself and diligently plan. I've been subjected to many drug tests and I've never failed one, ever.

You have to learn to beat your employer at their own game.
