| Hey All, I would like to know about random drug testing at the workplace. I am starting a new job and I think they have random drug testing. My question is when they randomly tell you to take a drug test, how long do they give you to take the test? Same day? The next day? Or does it varies? I tried search but my exact question didn't show up. thanks in advance! |

| A true random is one that gives you no notice. I have a company as a client who hands an employee a sheet of paper that tells the employee where to go, 15 minutes prior to the appointment time. Then when the employee arrives, I have to document the time they arrived at the testing site and sign the form. the employee then must take this paper back to the employer after the test is completed. I also have employers that ask me to just show up at their work sites, pull the employee off the job and test him/her right then and there. From the time I tell you about the test, til after the test is complete, you aren't allowed out of my sight (except of course while you are urinating). Still other employers allow their employees a day notice. It varies. |

| If the employer does random drug testing, do you have to sign a consent to it upon being hired at the company? |

| I'm more interested in what major food service places are known for random testing... I'm in a position right now where I may be turning down 14 to 15 an hour in this economy for selling wings and beer.... Well see |

| Yeah, I work for one of the big insurance companies now, and I'm worried cause I'd like to smoke every month or so without worrying about random testing. But I'd rather keep my job |
