I've been reading through the forums and I have a couple of things I want to make sure I'm clear on and a couple questions:

1.) The GC-MS is not necessarily more sensitive but more specific in that they detect the presence of a single metabolite. The single metabolite is thought to make up ~25% of all THC metabolites and this is why the cutoff is typically set at 15 ng/mL. The immunoassays survey all metabolites and therefore the cutoff is higher. I think I saw Sec explain this somewhere but just wanted to be sure, there is all kinds of crazy shit about this on the internet.

2.) I know that the home tests say that the intensity of the line should not be interpreted quantitatively but if it is a competitive binding assay, shouldn't the concentration of metabolites control the staining/binding intensity? I'm assuming that they calibrate these so that the presence of any visible line is not possible when the metabolite concentration is higher than 50 ng/mL but I still don't understand why these can't be interpreted quantitatively.

3.) Does the time of day when I schedule my test matter other than not giving my first void and having enough time to dilute does it matter whether its afternoon or morning.

4.) If I pass my pre-employment screening, is the company legally required to tell me if they do random testing or can they just throw it on me at anytime.

5.) Finally, I smoked daily all day for two months and have been clean 12 days and will be testing on Friday. I first passed a home test without dilution after 4 days. This morning my first void passed but faint line and this afternoon I took another without diluting and passed with solid line. Should I do 1/2 dilution just to be safe or is that even necessary.

1. You are correct.
2. Again, you are correct, but for industry standard, (those of us doing the testing), if there is a line, we shouldn't waste our time and our client's money by forwarding to a lab.
3. It doesn't matter, again you are correct (3 for 3 so far) in that you shouldn't give the first void of the day.
4. They are not required to give details about the drug testing program unless you are DOT regulated, in which case, the policy is strictly regulated as to what info it must contain.
5. It isn't necessary, but to insure you can pee on command and not waste an hour or two at the collection facility, 1/2 the dilution is an awsome idea.
