| I've noticed lots of talk on this site about digital thermometers. The positive is accuracy, but the negative is most of them "beep" which is no good while you're in the lab. Folks, go to a kitchen equipment store & buy an "instant read thermometer" for less that $10. Trust me (I'm an ex chef & it's what I used for my sub experience a few weeks ago)- they are very accurate, read the temp very quickly &, because they are shaped like a needle with a small dial at the top, easy to conceal if you feel you need to bring with you to the lab. If you are wary of the accuracy, try dipping the thermometer in a pot of boiling water- you'll see how exact the instant read will be. If it's off, even by a degree, your thermometer will have instructions on how to adjust it & get it back to being 100% accurate- it simply involves adjusting the nut at the convergence of the dial & the reader while the reader is immersed in boiling water. Any kitchen store or department store that carries lots of kitchen equipment will have them & they are inexpensive. Cheers! Last edited by sensfantoronto : 04-17-2009 at 12:54 PM.
