First time poster, long time smoker here. I have a quick question about goldenseal.

I am going to be taking a drug test soon, and since I was fretting over it so much I ended up going to Vitamin Shoppe and getting some Detox Tea and Goldenseal, both recommended to me by the manager after I explained to him my situation. The last time I blazed was the 5th of June, so its been nearly a month, and I have always had a high metabolism and stayed very active in sports.

I have been taking about 2 goldenseal pills and drinking one cup of Detox Tea for about 2-3 weeks now, and I have taken two home First Check tests and passed both of them, including the adulterant measurement. My question is this: will my use of goldenseal lead to a positive result on my actual test? The guy at Vitamin Shoppe indicated that I had to take it for a while to build up and then normalize levels in my system, so I'm wondering if my 'levels' are by now normalized and should pass inspection, or if I should abort taking these pills immediately and try and postpone my test until the goldenseal is completely out of my system. I have heard lots of different things about goldenseal, so any suggestions from knowledgeable posters would be great. Thanks a lot.

Ok, since I haven't heard from anyone and my test is coming up soon, I have decided to discontinue my use of goldenseal pills in the hopes of emptying my system of the supplement before the test. Honestly, at this point I am more worried about the supplement being in my system than THC. Does anyone know anything about LabCorp tests and if they screen for goldenseal?

Goldenseal doesn't help you pass a drug test, so there is no reason to be taking it. Some labs say they screen for it, but quite frankly, it is sort of outdated.

Thanks for the reply. I have read in a bunch of places that yes, goldenseal is in fact worthless and there is no reason to be taking it. Unfortunately, I read this stuff after I had already bought and started taking it, so I was just curious if I was really screwing myself even more by taking it. The problem is that I have already postponed my test and I'm sure my employers are getting antsy, and I really don't want to wait any longer than I have to. Do you happen to know how long it takes for it to get out of your system, or how long it would approximately take for the amount in my system to drop to unnoticable levels?

I know you guys get these kinds of questions all the time, so much thanks for the help. I really, really just want to get this test over with and then smoke a fatty ASAP

Well if you don't have any reason to suspect you will be observed just substitute synthetic urine and smoke away. Subbing has become the method of choice around here over that past few years. Why stress dilution sober when you can substitute stoned off your ass...

That's true, though I have already gone about a month without smoking and I have passed 2 home tests already. I'm a little scared about trying to substitute, and since my piss is probably clean enough I don't want to trifle with some of that synthetic stuff, especially since I have gone almost 30 days without smoking already. Plus, I have been having difficulty finding herbs recently anyway, so waiting a few days extra to ensure clean piss AND to wait for greens to come around doesn't bother me that much.

Well, I've bought another First Check home test and plan on testing myself tomorrow, first piss of the day. I have already passed two home tests pissing in the middle of the day and at night, so I'm going to give the first void a shot. Depending on how that goes, I may go in for the real test later in the afternoon so that I could potentially blaze on the 4th. I haven't had any goldenseal in 2 days and I'm honestly not sure if I am making this into a bigger deal than it should be. I know Sec said that goldenseal testing is kind of outdated, and the position I am going for is an unpaid internship (with a major employer to say the least) that could potentially lead to a real job down the road, so I don't know how in-depth the testing of the urine will be. If anyone has any knowledge on the potency of goldenseal pills and the methods for testing for the presence of goldenseal in urine, PLEASE let me know. This is the one thing that is now keeping me from taking the actual test, as clean urine but the presence of a supplement would probably screw me hard. Thanks a lot.

For anyone who cares, I took a First Check home test this morning on my 27th day clean, first piss of the day from the initial stream. There is a solid bar indicating a negative, and my adulterant strip came up normal in every area, though my creatine levels were on the high end of normal between 100 - 200 mg/dl. I am not sure if this is related to the goldenseal, but either way I am pretty happy.

Dont let this worry you too much. High creatinine levels are not a concern with the labs because theres no upper limits established for creatinine. As long as the creatinine level is over 20 mg/dL, its satisfactory.

Thanks for the reply. The higher creatine levels were I guess to be expected seeing as how it was my first piss of the day. Also, because I have no concept of biology and science in general.

I am now sitting here contemplating if I should go take my test this afternoon. I actually just found this old post that somewhat addresses my goldenseal concern (though there are tons of posts on this forum that seem to give alternating advice):

Goldenseal does not produce a false negative. It doesn't mask or change any metabolite of THC. Period. Nope. Zip. Nada. Case closed. It's an old-wive's tale.

There is no dipstick test for Goldenseal. Any compound can be isolated and detected in GC/MS testing. If some lab goes to the trouble of pegging someone with using a perfectly legal and all-natural suppliment, who cares?

If anyone can refute this in the next hour and prove to me that the presence of goldenseal can result in a failed test, I will abandon my plans to get tested this afternoon. If not, then I think I will just go get it over with.
