This is my first time using this site, and I need some help. A co-worker just accused my husband and I of drug use, and we were urine tested. (We have worked for this company for 11 and 15 years, and are in administrative positions). I have probably taken 1 puff in the past month. My husband is a more regular smoker--185 lbs., fast metabolism. On the way to find out why we were being called to the office, we drank tons of water. My test came back inconclusive and I was tested again today. My husband's came back positive. He is wanting to know if hypoglacemia or blood sugar can in any way effect the test results. Our policies say there must be a confirmation test, but my husband's supervisor is checking. He also recently hurt his ham string playing softball, and we are wondering if any of the drugs he takes can be used to justify a retest. He has recently taken(or has prescriptions for): Clarinex, Trazodone, Zyrtec, Ambien, Alprazolam, and has taken ibuprofen. Please help! Thanks!

the ibuprofen is the only substance that would even kind of mess with the assay test, but in reality none of those medicines really have the chemical compounds that respond to the test for cannabanoids. The blood sugar levels would not effect the test results at all; the only thing that affects the test would be the diluting of your urine with water. There are some medicines that do cause false positives but none of the ones mentioned here are relevant. As far as justification, you can argue till the end of the earth, but in reality, it is going to be next to impossible to get a retest from them unless it comes back dilute, the ph is off, or the creatine levels are low. Your best bet is to wait for the results and take the appropriate action. That sucks that you were forced into one from information provided by someone else; that is bad practice in my opinion, and personally, unless your supervisor saw you smoking or overheard you talking about pot, there is no reason to have them test you. I agree it is a load of crap. I hope everything is ok, let us now how it turns out.

Does a confirmation test use the same urine sample, or is it a new one?

if it is to confirm a positive, then it is the same sample; if the sample if too dilute or has low creatine levels, they will label it a retest and take a new sample from the person being tested Hope that helps
