I apologize if this has already been discussed but I searched the threads for a while and couldn't quite find a question like this...

I found out today that I have to take a random drug test at work. I work for a major defense contractor. I've been completely clean for 10 days. I think I can swing it to buy a few more days...

Do you think they would use a GC/MS test straight off or only if something suspicious shows up first?

I know it's much more expensive to do GC/MS, but I'm concerned that since it's such a big company they won't care about the cost because they are able to write it off somehow or something?

From what I've been reading the only real way to beat a GC/MS test is with urine substitution. I'm totally freaking out.

for the most part the gas chromatography method is only used to confirm a positive test on the EMIT dipstick style test. You are most likely still going to have an initial cutoff of 50ng/ml for your urine screen.

And yes, substitution is really the only way to beat the GC test since the GC test can detect levels very low in the system and even dilution can't beat it if you have residual traces of metabolites in your urine. Also, the aspirin methodology only works on the dipstick style tests; again with the GC the aspirin will not do anything.

I ended up not being able to buy a few more days and had to take the test this morning. AFter scrounging up some material from my orientation, I found out that they do the EMIT test first (50 ng level) and then if it comes up positive they send it to an independant lab to do a GC (15 ng level!). So there was no time for me to find someone to donate for substitution. I have like zero girl friends. I went with the aspirin/water/vitamins/GHF method. They told me the results only take 1-2 days. Now I just wonder if it comes up diluted if they'll automatically send it off for the GC or call me in for another chance...

And if they go to the GC will they be able to tell I drank the GHF and ate like 10 aspirin?

I'm 5'9", 120 lb female, pretty fast metabolism, but not big on exercise. I was a daily smoker until 10 days ago. And the week before that I was down to only a few hits at night before bed. What are the odds I get called in for a random test at the same time I start trying to transfer across the country? Coulda been worse I guess...

Also found out from my "union" rep that if I come up positive, they will allow me to enroll in some sort of month-long drug rehabilitation program. Along with being subject to more random tests throughout the next 12 months. So hopefully this means I won't get fired.

if you show up diluted they will probably ask for a retest not send to GC; they usually send to GC only to confirm a positive result. In addition they can spot aspirin in the GC, but aspirin is not illegal, people take it all the time, so no worries.

I'm considering buying it. Would it pass a GC/MS test?

obviously yes because it is clean urine from a clean source, substituted for your own dirty urine
