Question Second hand Smoke

How much or little of second hand smoke will it take to cause a person to show positive on a urine test.

Second hand smoke will almost never cause a positive result. Exhaled smoke contains little THC. Second hand smoke from the cherried end of a jay or a bowl will have THC. It's possible to fail, but will take an almost ridiculous amount of second hand smoke to fail a test.

I do have a documented case of positive test for marijuana after second hand smoke, but it was after the person was in a car that was clam baked over the period of hours, with no ventilation; the person took the test the next day and failed.

However, unless you are in an environment such as this, with no ventilation, and you are breathing in thick smoke contiuously for hours and hours and hours, you have nothing to worry about. True, even exhaled smoke DOES contain some THC, but the amount that you would inhale in a normal ventilated room would not be enough to register you above the 50ng/ml cutoff used on most test; remember that a marijuana screen only tests for the presence of a THC level above 50ng/ml; they are NOT looking for a 0 level. A passing grade, therefore, is usually any level below the 50ng/ml level.

Hope that helps

I was wondering about this too. My dad's coming home on a home visit tomorrow (from prison) and they usually give him a UA when he gets back. I just wanna make sure he's not going to fail the test from my second hand smoke.
