I will be taking a DOT drug test tomorrow, 12/15. I am 50 years old, 6' 3" and around 235# with a slow to medium metabolism. Being a trucker, I don't get a lot of excercise but I haven't smoked in about three weeks. I'm fairly confident that I will pass ok but I would like to get some kind of assurance from someone who would know better than I, even though at this point in my life I should be an expert, my memory aint what it used to be...can't imagine why...
I will be using the dilution and asprin and Tums method. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

How often do you smoke, out of curiosity?

I'm a 19 year old 120lb, 5'7" male.. and I'm going to have about 2 weeks between my last smoke and my test. I smoked pretty habitually for the year or so before I stopped.

Bad news for me... I just did a home test and tested positive
I guess three weeks isn't enough for me...

Thanks melanotaenia, You've given me hope. I forgot to mention that I would be taking a DOT physical at the same time. I took a chance and went packin' my little IV bag and was able to do the UA before the physical. I had enough time to run out to the car and remove the IV bag. I wish I had known that the guy collecting the sample was going to be so lax. He didn't check the temp. I had diluted and did the asprin (about 6 or 8 during the 3 hours prior to testing and 8 - 12 Tums) and took a BIG chance and added some of my own urine to the substitution to heat it up a bit. Just a little squirt or so. I figured it should be diluted enough to not make much difference. Then I held the cup tightly in my hands to warm it up a bit more. I think maybe I was being a tad bit over cautious but this was a REALLY important test. I won't get the results until Friday as it was so late in the afternoon when I tested. I will post the results as soon as I get them...provided I'm not screaming with anger and tears at the time.

Good luck, I wish you the best, I only hope that there was not enough urine from you in the sample to bring the level up to the standard cutoff for DOT which is 50ng/ml; however, given the amount you stated, I think you should still be ok. Given you had three weeks clean, lets just say your level in your system was 100ng/ml (this is being generous, probably was lower).

Now lets do a calculation; if you had 1 part your urine at 100ng/ml and 9 parts clean urine at 0ng/ml, the level in the sample will be 10ng/ml; if it was 2 parts your urine, 8 parts clean urine, you are now at 20ng/ml. Unless the sample you gave them contained 50% or more of your urine, by the calculation above, you will be able to pass your test.

I hope that helped give you an idea of your chances, but keep in mind your urine was probably less than 100ng/ml at the time of the test, so I think your sample was definately under the cutoff.

I feel a lot better after looking at the numbers. That makes sense and gives me great hope. I am the type of person that still won't be totally relaxed until I get the results, which, if all goes well, will be tomorrow.

I'm so thankful to have a website like this to get the info I need as quickly as I can get it, and for having people like you on this site who know what they're talking about! I will be posting something tomorrow for sure. Even if I don't hear anything, which is unlikely because the company will be needing to make travel arrangements for a rental car for me to go to Nashville and be there Monday at 8 AM. I need to be there as early as possible Sunday because my cousin always has some killer that he just LOVES to share with his much older cuz

OK... It's Saturday night...11:30 central time... Still no word from an MRO (medical review officer) so I must assume (we all know what that spells) that I passed. I know that my travel arrangements for Nashville have been made and given to me so I would think that's at least a good sign.
