Okay, quick and possibly dumb question.

I passed with an at home test. My real test is in a week. I will take one more test at home before the real thing.

If you pass with an at home test, is it pretty much a sure thing that you will pass at the lab, provided you do everything that you did to pass the home test?

I may have asked this, but I keep reading posts from folks who are still testing dirty after a month of abstinance.. I have only abstained for 2 weeks.. I will use dilution. Not a chance I Can sub. I am applying with law enforcement.

So I guess my question is, are home tests pretty accurate?

as has been covered many times before, home tests, if used correctly, are a perfect indicator of your test in the lab.

Home tests are accurate and usually adhere to a 50ngl standard. If your test is a 20 ngl standard, than no.
Everybody is different. I started testing clean after 9 days (i think) and I smoke regularly.
Assuming that it is a 50 standard, then test a first elimination of the day from the beginning of the stream. If you pass that, I would wager my prize bowl that you are clean. If you are still nervous, drink a few cups of water to dilute a little and read up on aspirin.

first off, it depends on what conditions you tested yourself under... i recommend doing at least 2 tests, one using your 1st piss of the day, which is more likely to be positive than a later one after drinking any fluids, to see if your really clean, but then if that's positive, do another test after practicing the dilution method, using the midstream tech to see if the methods can get you a negative result. if so, then you need to repeat the methods that worked for your home test on the real one. good luck


but one thing i need to know is if the home tests are set for the 50ng cutoff and if it goes to the lab for a GC/MS at the 15ng cutoff, couldn't there be a possible problem there?

if you passed the home test you are almost always FINE. i wouldn't dillute since you don't have to, no sense in making the bladder go nuts if you don't have to!

why would it go to the GC test if you pass the 50 test? If you are able to pass the initial screen, they are not going to waste the money to test in a GC; the GC would only be used to confirm a positive test on the initial screen. By passing the home test, you will be able to pass the initial screen at 50ng/ml. If you can do this, the GC/MS is then not part of the equation, so you would not have to worry about it anyway.

There has been some talk on here of lower thresholds for some probation tests, but as far as I know, employers are still utilizing the DOT standard of 50ng/ml.

Thanks guys, very reassuring.
This morning I took a test with my first pee of the day. The line on the negative part was extremely faint. The booklet says that even a faint line is still a negative result, but now I'm wondering if the faintness of the line is an indication that I am just barely below the 50ng/ml cutoff.
For the job for which I am applying, (a form of law enforcement) I am afraid that they may use a lower threshold test. I wonder if anybody know whether or not law enforcement personelle are subject to tests that are set to detect levels below the standard 50ng/ml cutoff.
But on the other hand, even if I do have to take a more sensitive test, if I am passing with my first pee of the day and I dilute, I should be fine I guess, right?

Yeah- sounds like it's probably out of your system plus dilution in case they use a more senstive test. The faintness of the line doesn't matter- I don't think we have determined why some lines are faint and some aren't but it's still negative and that's what matters. Good Luck!
