anyone know the max time it might take to get results?

i took a test 8 days ago and i'm wanting to start back smoking. i was clean almost 2 months so i'm sure i passed. i just don't want to smoke up now and find out they lost my sample or something like that. does anyone have any experience with how long it can take to get results back?

Usually it doesn't take 8 days. Usually it's a few days. I definitely have never heard of more than two weeks.

That said, there could be several different things going on.

The optimistic view: If this is an employment or pre-employment drug screen, most states only require them to inform you if you test positive, not if you pass. It's entirely possible that you passed and they informed your (prospective) employer of it, and your employer simply hasn't bothered to share the results with you (mine didn't).

The pessimistic view: If your test came back inconclusive, I wouldn't put it past either the testing company or a prospective employer to purposefully delay informing you on the hope that you would think you passed and smoke again, then pull you back in for another test a week or two after the first inconclusive one.

Unfortunately, in situations like this you really don't have enough information to be certain *what* is going on. I like to hope for the optimistic view, but your only real course of action is to wait. Perhaps a good plan would be to wait until 2, 3 or even 4 weeks has passed (depending on how badly you want to pass this test), and if you hear nothing, smoke away.

Of course, the safest bet would be to abstain until the matter is concluded one way or the other, but I don't know if this is a pre-employment screen, a probation screen, a military screen, or what. Circumstances could change everything... the devil is in the details, as they say.

If it's a pre-employment test you might want to wait until after you receive your first paycheck.

it's a yearly test. and they won't tell me if i pass. i'm going to give it another week for sure. maybe 2 more

also, i drive a company car. so if i failed or got inconclusive i don't think they would hesitate to fire or retest me. they won't let me drive around in the car if they think i might be on drugs.

hey all...

i took my pre-employment UT on monday 3/21/05. its now wednesday 3/23/05. the Doc's office told me it would take two or three days to get the result. I got two questions for everyone,

1)will the Doc's office call me if its negative/positive

2)Or will i just hear from the pending employeer

any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. as you can see im pretty paranoid.

i think the lab is required by law to notify you first if the test is positive. if it's negative, it's likely you will never hear anything about it. this is one of those cases where no news is good news.

thanx for the reassuring advice...yea its now been 3 days since i had the test. and like i said it only takes 2-3 days from what i was told. so no news is good news...works for me...so do you think my employeer will call me then
