| 2 weeks ago, I landed a new job as a QC engineer and was thrilled to death. I had quit smoking on July 4th knowing this was in the works. 8 days later, I was scheduled for a urine test and thought I had took the proper precautions; however, the testing center contacted me on Friday morning to inform me that I tested positive for trace amounts of marijuana and my potential employer would be contacting me to discuss these results. All of Friday passed without any phone call, keeping me filled with anxiety all weekend. It is now the end of the work day on Monday and I still haven't heard from anyone. Is their anything I can say/do when they finally call? If they never call or send a letter, should I show up on my expected start date of August 1st? Or should I just chalk this up as a loss and begin looking for another career? I am expecting to miss out on this opportunity. Obviously I will not list this position when looking for another job, but will a background check now show that I was hired and failed my drug screening? Appreciate any experience someone may have with these questions. Thanks! |

| Depending on what state you live in...."trace" amounts of marijuana are NOT a valid reason to prevent a company from hiring you by itself. Some states actually allow up to 15 nanograms of THC in one's drug test...others may allow more and still others....NONE whatsoever. I would imagine it is also up to the particular company in the long run as to exactly what would disqualify a prospective employee. You have few options, IMO. 1. Be patient....and SEE if THEY contact YOU.....if so you are either hired or not. 2. Just show up on the 1st and see what happens on that day...but be prepared for anything! 3. If they do NOT hire you as a result of failing their piss test for "trace" amounts of weed.....SCREW them! If you want some peace of mind.....and KNOW that you are NOT hired for this reason......have FUN with them. Tell them you are willing to put the hash pipe away for good and drink like a fish instead....its LEGAL ya know? OR...tell them if it was ok for the President of the US to smoke weed....why then is it NOT....for you! Then keep searching for a job elsewhere.....preferably one that doesn't expect you to be a saint or even have a drug testing requirement. Good luck though...since it seems they all do these days. Only elected politicians seem to NOT have to worry about passing a drug test.....you could go that road. It's an unconstitutional form of discrimination and should NOT be tolerated by the American people. It is also grounds for a possible defamation of character lawsuit, IMO....especially if they notify other companies of your results with them. TOTAL BS!

Me, personally? I would wait to see if they call (shows you aren't anxious), but if they don't, then show up on the first day and act as if nothing happened. If you're lucky, they'll act the same and life goes on. The worst they can do is tell you "sorry, we don't want you here you can go home now." And then you're in no worse shape than you are now, except you're a little more experienced and ready for the next potential job (and drug test). Also remember, there are many companies out there that don't drug test at all!

| Just show up on the day you are suppossed to but be prepared! they may require you to take another test right away, which may be supervised. Or they may just tell you to forget it or they may say nothing. Try using a detox drink before you go on the first day and if they ask you to take another test you will be prepared. Question is, were they suppossed to call you already and did not? If they were give them a call. There is nothing wrong with being interested in you future job. |

| Well, it is now almost the end of the day on Thursday. That is 6 days since the testing center informed me of the results, and I still have had no contact from my potential employer. If this continues until Tuesday morning, I will start feeling pretty good about my position. Thank you all for your opinions and support. By the way GerberBaby, I chugged at least 1 gallon of water/day for 3 days leading up to my test date and used a cleansing product from GNC that friends of mine had used with good results. This product was called StripNC and is produced by www.covertlabs.com. I no longer have any confidence in products from GNC and would reccommend using a product especially made for Marijuana users. I have had passing results within 3 days of smoking using "Test Pure" detox in the past. I wish I would have again used this product, but its now too late. |

| I finally got the call and I am still going to be hired! The HR Manager told me that my concentration levels were below the required limit for the state of Ohio (whatever Ohio's limits are?) to deny me employment. Does anyone know what the concentration limits are for Ohio? However, this does now mean that I may be scrutinized to random drug testing immediately or any time in the future. So, I guess I won't be smoking anytime soon. Does anyone know of a good product I can have on hand for a random drug test? My initial drug test was collected at a medical institution, do you think a random drug test would also be collected there? Or might they collect the sample at my place of employment? Thanks again! |

| Congrats!!! I never knew states set any testing levels other than the Fed guidelines of 50ng/mL initial and 15ng/mL conformation. N2
