I have been producing false negatives on my screens for probation using the dilution/asprin method. Always with at least 3 days clean before each test. One day I had smoked the night before and ended up having to do a screen. I did the dilution thing and also dipped my finger in bleach and then let the urine hit my finger on the way into the cup. It worked for me twice even though they test the PH with a seperate "dipstick".

I tried it again on a thursday and it did not work. I'm not sure why. So, since it was positive it was supposed to be sent for gc/ms confirmation that night. They told me they would have the results monday at the earliest. When I called Monday they could not find the file. They called me back about an hour later and said they made a mistake and had not sent it to the lab yet so they needed a couple more days before I could get the results. I dont know if the sample was kept at room temp. or in a fridge.

So my question is: A) Will the fact that the urine sat for at least 4 days with bleach in it effect the confirmation? B) How long can urine sit and still give an accurate reading for THC? and C) I signed a "chain of custody" aggreement in order for them to send it for confirmation. Do I have a legal argument that the "chain of custody" was or may have been broken when they lost my file and could not find my sample? Or that the urine was to old to produce accurate results?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. I am nervous as hell!!!

This is not a lab. They do "dipstick type" screens right in front of you. If it is positive you sign a chain of custody agreement and they send it to a lab an hour away for gc/ms confirmation. My sample sat for at least 4 days before the gc/ms. My question still stands: Does urine (refrigerated or not) expire and produce innaccurate results?

Yeah, great thanks. I was hoping someone had experienced a chain of custody problem and had some advice. Or if anyone thought that was a valid argument.

The bleach was the problem. That is concidered tampered test.

The reason it was sent for confirmation was the bleach. Is that what you are saying?
It was sent for confirmation 'cuz it was positive for THC, not 'cuz it was tampered. Like I said it was tested right in front of me. This method has worked twice for me in the past even though they test PH. Either he did not notice or the PH was normal, I never pay attention to that strip.
I still would like to know if urine that is positive for THC expire eventually and produce inaccurate gc/ms results and whether bleach being present effects the length of time THC remains detectable. Also whether anyone has fought a positive on the basis that the chain of custody was broken.
