i took a pre-employment drug test today. it was a five panel test and the results came back "non-negative". I have no idea what this means as far as me getting the job. I haven't smoked weed for 2 weeks and 2 days and i was a daily smoker before that. I haven't been able to find much information as to what the non-negative result means, so if anyone can help me out that would be awesome.

Thats a new one on me. Have no idea except for a F'd up way of saying positive. Kind of like unloosen a bolt. Your kind of in a wait and see mode. If you were a daily somker and were only clean for 2 and a half weeks, did you do anyhting to help ensure that you would come up negative?

Non-Negative is a instant dip or cup type of device that SCREENS positive. We, as testers cannot report a POSITIVE until the specimen has been sent to a lab for confirmation (If that is what the employer has provided for).

Non-Negative is the term we use to indicate that the speciment screened positive, but the sample was sent to a laboratory for further testing. If the sample again screens positive at a lab, they usually do further testing using a gc/ms (gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer) (excuse incorrect spelling please). If, then the sample is indeed positive, the results are then sent to a MRO (Medical Review Officer) for review. He/she will review the test, paperwork, results, etc. If he/she finds nothing wrong with the collection or testing procedure, he/she will usually call you using the phone number provided on your CCF (Custody and Control Form) to discuss any OTC or Prescriptions you may have taken prior to testing. If there are no legal reasons (such as OTC or prescriptions) found for you to have a banned substance in your urine, the MRO will then report to the employer that you are positive.

Non-Negative is a term we use to identify that the instant device did not indicate a negative on a given sample. Basically it is a term we use when a sample is sent for further testing. You should be very worried and expect a call from a MRO with-in a few days.

BTW, ignoring a MRO's call will not help matters at all. The MRO will try for 3-10 days to contact you, leaving messages on voice mail for you to phone him back. Avoiding the call only delays the reporting. If, after 3-10 (business) days, the MRO cannot contact you using the number YOU provided, he/she will the report to the employer that you are positive.

when they call, deny having used any drugs... claim there must've been a mix-up or something & beg for a retest... & be prepared for it. read the sticky threads at the top of this forum about substitution & dilution. good luck
