Default Question about home tests

I have a test six days from now, at which point I will be 12 days clean. I am a light smoker (about 8-10 times in the previous month, 2 or 3 hits each time).

I just took one of the PharmTech home tests on my 2nd void of the day, with no dilution used, just to see where I stood. I didn't use my first void of the day because I know that I'm going to be able to take the test in the afternoon on actual test day.

I passed the test. The "T" line was faint, but very clear.

I realized after about 5 minutes, though, that the urine level in the sample cup was about 4 millimeters above the "Max Urine Level" line on the test stick.

I would think that being above the line would be more likely to result in a false positive rather than a false negative. Is this assumption correct?

I have 2 more @ home tests, but want to save them for a few days from now to practice when using the dilution method. I'm just curious is this test result is voided because I was ever-so-slightly above the "Max" line.

Thanks again for all the help here.

As long as it wasnt over the line and got into the testing window it should be pretty accurate I would think. Sec3 can tell you for sure.

Definitely didn't get into the testing window, it was still touching just the cardboard, literally 4 mm above the "max line".

I don't believe you were far enough over the "max" line to make a difference. If you go too far over the line, you run the risk of "washing away" the antibodies developed from the presence of THC in the urine giving a false positive result. A faint line indicates negative, same as a very dark line.

I am not at work now, and this is just what I remember from reading the literature that comes with the tests. If you have literature that came with your test, look to see if it states what the danger of overfilling the test cup or submerging the tester too far into the urine would be. I will double check my memory when I get to work tomorrow.

I checked the instruction that comes with our "quick dip" instant tests, and it doesn't say specifically. I must have asked the company that question before in the past. Now we use the 5-panel integrated "split" cups. That way, we are not exposed to the urine and there is no chance of submerging too far. The amount of urine applied to the test strip is controlled by the cup.

In other words, we insert a "Key" into a slot and this allows only 2mL of urine to flow into a "test chamber". The remainder is left in the main chamber of the cup, uncontaminated by the test card for laboratory analysis if necessary. The "dip" type if tests are really outdated. The cups only cost 50 cents more than the dip sticks (from the wholesaler).

QUOTE FROM THE TEST INSTRUCTIONS: "Note: The shade of red in the test line region (T) will vary, but it should be considered negative whenever there is even a faint pink line."
