Check out this site. Apparently it is within the employer's power to investigate your drug test history as part of a background check.

I admit it, I tested my substitute's sample before I gave it...felt kinda low, but I had to know for sure.

Five years back would not be reportable. Previous employers for CDL jobs cannot report any drug test information more than 5 years old. You need to give your permission to your prospective employer before they can ask a SPECIFIC previous employer about your drug testing records. The specific former employer must be named on the authorization form. Your Commercial Drivers License w/passenger endorsement determines that you are a DOT regulated employee (if you have the possibility of driving a bus with 16 or more passengers (including the driver).

Yes, the prospective DOT Regulated employer is required to make an inquiry to your previous employer regarding your drug testing records. When you failed your drug test, for a DOT regulated test, you are required to visit a SAP (substance abuse professional). The reports from the SAP also go with your drug testing records. The required recordkeeping limit for positive drug tests is 5 years. If you have not had a DOT regulated job since you failed your drug test, you should have nothing to worry about (assuming the test was more than 5 years ago). I don't believe any other type of drug test is reportable on a background check.

Drug related arrests and convictions (municipal, county, state and federal)are reportable on a background check though.

The problem with posting websites like above is one never knows the reputation of the site given. I do the exact same thing for a living. This is my livelihood. You have just advertized my competition. (Just stating fact).

So, you say, why not give my business website on this forum? Because I have others involved with the business who might not understand fully my participation here and I would like to remain anonymous. In addition, if I start advertizing and promoting my own business here, some might think I had an ulterior motive for saying some of the things I say on this website. They might begin to doubt my word.

You could look in your local phone book's yellow pages under "employment screening", "Background Investigations" or "Drug Testing".

A background check can include whatever the employer wants.

DOT employers are required to do a driving history each year on all DOT regulated employees and have a pre-employment drug test (or previous employer drug & alcohol testing records request & reply) result on file.

Non-DOT employers order:
Driving history
Criminal history (local, county, state, Federal) can include minor infractions to felonies, complete with disposition court findings.
Sexual Predator Listings
Previous Employer interview
Educational Verifications
Licensure Verifications
Social Security Trace
Credit History
Renting history (usually ordered by potential landlords)
Drug testing
Alcohol testing

There are more, but I think I have scared you enough for now.
