Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering as to how I should go about finding labs which use the GC/MS technique and also allow independent tests. I have a test coming up soon and I want to make sure that I am completely clean, i.e. below the 15ng cutoff level, before the test. It is a pre-emp test for a very big financial services firm and I cannot afford screw this up. Any help on this matter will be highly appreciated.

Look in the yellow pages under "Drug Testing" or "Employment Services". Find an independent Collection facility. Go in, tell the person you would like to have a urine test for THC. You want this specimen sent to a DHHS Approved lab (certified for DOT tests). You also want the specimen tested at the "Lowest Detectable Level". They will screen it at 15ng/mL and if positive at that level, run it through the GC/MS. That is the best you can get as far as employment testing.

You should be warned, you will be asked to pay for the test up front, (provide cash). Depending on the facility, the test could run anywhere from $25 - $75. Be sure to let them know you do not need a MRO review, this test is for yourself and not for any employment purposes. That should save you a few bucks.

It is no one's business why you want tested. If you walked into my facility, I would need to call the lab and get a price & a code on such a test before I could send it in. This would take about 15 additional minutes. The turn-around time on such a test is the same as the other tests. About 24 hours for a negative and 36-48 hours for a positive. I get truck drivers from time to time wanting to have a lab test to determine if they are positive or negative before applying to a new company because they KNOW they will have a pre-employment test before they can go to work.

These are all DHHS Certified Labs. There are others, but I'm not at work now and cannot cite any more off memory. You could go directly to the lab and omit paying an independent collector saving additional $$.

I believe Hawg is a sort of expert in this field. He has this unusual hobby of getting tested from time to time just to keep his skills sharp. He could add a bit of wisdom to this thread I'm sure.

Just go to the Lab that you pick and tell them what Sec said, that you want to have yourself tested for THC. A 50ng home test is virtually the same as a 15 ng GC/MS test. But you can ask for a lower cutoff rate. They just want a picture ID [drivers license] and your social so you have proof to obtain the info. You can ask for the paper work that shows the rate you are at and the cutoff rate they are testing at also. That will give you an idea of how far below the level you are.

I guess it is an unusual hobby Sec but I do not like to get blind sided. But I do have other hobbies like playing my banjo, Harleys [riding and building] and yes my most favorite, XBox live in racing games But first and most important is spending time with my kids.
