Ok, I know the test they did on my sample was an EMIT. My question is if you flunk the EMIT because of prescription meds, does the MRO automatically contact me (or the employer) prior to proceding with the GC-MS? Or am I just plain screwed. If I had to do it over again, I would have definitely subbed.

Either the MRO or the Employer will not contact you before the specimen goes to the GC/MS. That is considered part of the laboratory testing. When the lab tests are finished, the results go to the MRO or the Employer depending on the results.

Thanks Sec3...you're certainly a wealth of knowledge and I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I'm supposed to start orientation Thursday. I guess I'll go unless I hear otherwise. <sigh> (ps. This really sucks)

Actually, NO NEWS is good news. They only test FOR a certain panel of drugs. They don't do a sort of general sweep of your urine to see what is all in it. If your prescription is not among those particular banned substances tested for, you have no worries. At the risk of being off topic, I will list the most common drugs tested for in a 5 panel test: Marijuana Cocaine PCP Opiates Amphetamines & Meth-amphetamines If your prescription is not derived from one of these substances (or any other substance the employer has contracted to test for) then you are in the clear. If a banned substance is detected, the MRO would have called you by now. (this usually takes 2-4 days after the collection is done). If the MRO doesn't call, Good for you! Cheer up bucko Whoops, I just re-read all your posts. You only gave your specimen yesterday, correct? I still think you have a good chance with the fluid you drank prior to your test and your light habits. Prescription medication is absolutely no worry in a drug test unless: 1. The prescription is not written for you. 2. You are not taking the prescription according to directions. Power of positive thinking - good stuff ![]() To answer your original question in this thread, No, they won't detect THC if a prescription med is detected during the EMIT screening. The drug detected in the EMIT is the one that is ran on the GC/MS for quantitative values.

Well, a full 48 hours and I have not heard from the MRO yet. I start orientation this morning and I'm hoping I wont get escorted out half way through. For anyone who doesn't know what to say to their teenage kids if things don't go well, I plan on telling them I couldn't pass the 'back' test. (they put you on a machine and you have to lift 40 pounds) I'm a nurse so this works well...of course it could work with almost any type of job where lifting is required. Here's to hoping for a full day on the job <clink>
