hi all ive just been to take my d & a pre employement test and had a slight problem with my sample, my clean friend couldn't produce enough urine and ended up having to dilute with tap water, the temp was also 91 when she recorded it (even though it was 93 when i gave her it), i think i will be allright as i'm sure i've read that this is the reason they turn the taps of and colour the water blue in the system, just wanting to get some expert conformation to put my mind completely at rest,

oh yes i forgot to say the sample was diluted about 60% urine and 40% water, this was also my friends first whizz of the day which i believe to be the most potent.

P.S i know this is qouted alot but i found the actual subbing a piece of piss (pardon the pun)

This is bad news. Your specimen may now be found to be diluted at best, and adulterated or substituted at worst. That is a LOT of water to add with a specimen. Also, the chlorine in the tap water is not a good thing if they detect it (ph level).

This would be the only thing that MIGHT save you. If the urine was strong (concentrated) enough by being the first urine of the day, it MIGHT counteract some of the effects of the water. I wouldn't bet on this one though.

Remember, Collectors ALWAYS ask for more than is needed. Check the collection cup. The MOST we will EVER need is 60mL. Most employers and all DOT tests require only 45mL. There are little lines on the cup indicating the levels of each of those amounts. Next time you need to take a urine test, look at the collection cup and see where those levels actually are and give that much. The danger of that is a smaller amount of urine cools quicker than a large amount. Don't dally around after filling the cup. Pull up, zip up and get the specimen to the collector before it cools too much.

the info i was relating to is from the doping samples on the drop down page under doping samples---
8.1.3 Water:You can dilute your sample heavily with water. Don't confuse this with drinking water; you can also add water directly to the sample. Be sure to use hot water (between 91 and 97 degrees), they will likely take the temperature of the sample. This method isn't dependable because some facilities have the sink water shut off so people can't do this. If there is running water, they may listen to you. If you turn on the water, make it sound like you're washing your hands or something.

it does however state that this can alter the ph at the top but i didn't remember the whole part in the heat of the moment

can you please advise on the acceptable ph levels of a sample and also if i fail do you think i will have to take a supervised retest, i'm very sorry to keep pestering you but i cant seem to find this in any searches (i think i am searching correctly but am not the best on a computer) thanks.

I am sorry to say that I have found some of the info on that portion of this site at best: outdated and at worst: wrong.

It should be updated for accuracy.

I think Lew said the Ph is in the normal range if 4.5 -9.0

Thats right, Hawg. Under DHHS regulations, the ph must be in the 4.5 - 9.0 range to be acceptable.
