OK, tell me how this happened and how to avoid it from happening tomorrow!

Occasional smoker- last hit 25-30 days ago. Usually smoke on one weekend day every other week or so. Female- 5'6 140 mod metabolism

Anyways went in to do pre employment on Mon. Home test showed Neg so wasnt too worried. Had 2 cups of coffee early in the day. A bottle of water about 1hr before test. So all in all maybe 32 -40 0z spread through out day. Took test at 3:30. Came back yesterday NEG DILUTE!!!!

Was told if it comes back neg dilute again I will NOT get this job. How could it be diluted when I DIDNT drink hardly anything? I didnt eat prior to test either. Im so scared to retake!!!

This is what the lab tech told me today. She was quite suprised when I told her I had only drank 2 cups of coffee before 1st test. Today, I had NOTHING to drink and when I gave my sample, the lab tech remarked how cloudy it was. She then did one of those Intect strip tests (on the house because she was curious too) and she said my SG was on the borderline of being DILUTE!!!!! She then ran a 10 panel (again on the house) and of course that was NEGATIVE. Now Im just scared sh**less for this test to come back dilute again. Im NOT a vegan and def not on a low salt diet.. so what can be happening here?

The tech told me if it comes back again to tell them I will submit blood or hair but the MRO told me flat out I would not be hired if this came back dilute. I DIDNT Dilute and I DIDNT drink anything before the test!!!

What a F**K show.

This story is weird. I believe you, it is just that you must have a weird (unusual) metabolism that allows this to happen to you.

I cannot understand, for the life of me, why the collector would take such an interest in your urine. Did the collector separate the urine that was used for the integrity check and instant test from the urine that was sent to the lab? if not, then the collector contaminated your specimen. To do those tests "on the house" is over the top. I might offer, if you suggested you wanted it, but to offer it free of charge, in my opinion is taking too much interest in a particular collection.

Did you actually SEE the collector seal the vials, and did you initial the seal on the vials?

Keep your copy of the authorization form. IF the MRO calls again with a diluted result, ask him what the CCF # is. Compare with what you have. They should match. The seals on the vial also have this number. I cannot imagine why a collector would mess with a urine sample, but that is the only reasonable explanation (short of a medical reason such as kidney disease) that this might happen again.

My take on what the lab tech did to "help"me was that I asked if I could pay to have my urine tested for dilute upon arrival. I then explained my situation above. When I gave my sample, she remarked how cloudy it was and stated normal urine should be able to be seen through. She took a piece of paper with writing and held it up to the bottle. She then took another persons specimen and did the same thing-and I could read the writing but on mine I could not.

I guess this was what prompted her to run the Intect test and thats when my sample showed on the cusp of being dilute. She did mention about kidney problems. Like I mentioned before..Didnt drink anything before this retest.

I do want to throw this out there though. I had gastric bypass 2 years ago. Would this possibly cause my SG to be off no matter what?

She didnt have me initial anything on the container either time I was there And during all this talking, I drank a bottle of water and she had me go again and tested the urine and still sediment and still SG was off.

I would go to your DR and tell him/her about this and get checked out. If you do [and I hope not] have a Kidney problem I would think that by not getting the job they are discriminating against you.

Hooterbug, you may have one of several problems to explain your dilute/ near dilute urine.
1) You have undiagnosed kidney disease. You don't necessarily have to have any symptoms to have this. Get a blood test from your doctor. You may have a poor urine concentrating ability dur to kidney disease.

2) You're drinking more than you've admitted to (not to diagnose you specifically but there are people out there with something called psychogenic polydipsia who habitually drink water...a lot of it...and don't know they have a problem but it can actually make your blood sodium go dangerously low.

3) As Buzz alluded to, you're either a vegetarian or eat low salt diet....but let me expand. It's actually a question of how much you eat in general. Are you eating too little? People who eat very little yet drink a lot of fluids can have this problem.

4) You have diabetes mellitus, either a mild form that has escaped your attention (you're not constantly peeing or thirsty but your kidneys aren't retaining as much water as they should, or a severe form which is unlikely because if you had this you'd be extremely thirsty and peeing all the time, and it would definitely have caught your attention in the past.

So which one is it?

Well, Im DEF not a vegetarian. I probably should drink more than I do on a daily basis as most of my liquid intake is coffee or tea.

I have had hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) problems off an on so that may be a factor but Im not sure.

If this one comes back dilute I guess I will know it has something to do with either my diet or kidneys because nothing else "fits"

My urine should have been VERY concentrated and on point with all levels good for the 2nd test as I didnt drink before the test. I had nothing to hide as the THC was long gone out of my system. (also took 4 diff tests all neg)

I could have very well subbed for this test as I was never even under ANY supervision but I DIDNT NEED TO. This is sooooo frustrating.
