First, this is an amazing forum and thanks all those that have contributed to the knowledge base here.

I'm scheduled to have a pre-employment 7-50 GC/MS screen next week (Quest). My understanding is that this will be pre-screened w/ EMIT method at 50 ng/ml and an initial positive confirmed at 15 ng/ml, correct? However, I'm a tad confused about the difference between the tests. Based on what I have found here the EMIT test is detecting the metabolytes from THC whereas the GC/MS looks for actual THC? Or am I totally confused? I'm an engineer but chem/bio was never my thing, and I have the grades to prove it

My particular sitch - fairly regular to binge smoker over the last 25 years. Have consumed an 1/8th or so since early May but very infrequent since early June, - probably less than a dugout full plus some a shared joint or two, basically a few hits a night on the weekends with as much as a week or two between "relapses". Early 40's male, 5'10, lean (*very* minor little pouch, I like beer too) but body fat low. Avg to high metabolism and heavy smoker (1 1/2 - 2 packs a day). Exercise is moderate, mostly yard/house work and softball. Will be 15 days clean at the time of the test. For four days leading into the test I'll be camping and doing a ton of walking, dancing and rocking out at a music festival, not too mention eating tons of grilled red meats, cheese, bacon and eggs, etc. Yes, willpower will be key but I plan to stay by my wife the entire weekend...wish I had stayed clean so I could have taken the test before I left and then really enjoyed the weekend, but oh well. Also will be consuming mass quantities of gatorade and water to stave off dehydration, and obviously there will be considerable amounts of alcohol involved as well. Monday I'll return and lay off the liquor, eat well, and rest as much as I can before the test Tues. Plan to use "partial" dilution (basically coffee, water, and gatorade + aspirin) the morning of the test.

Good news is that I ran a home test today after 2 glasses water, 1 20 oz gato, and 2 cups coffee, plus 4 325 mg Bayer aspirin, and got a decent but faint line on the test with a mid-stream sample. I half considered going in today but figure the 4 days ahead will turn that line a lot darker - am taking some home tests along to monitor every few days on the first or second void of the morning, and obviously will be closely scrutinizing on Monday and Tuesday. I'm a lot less concerned now This is for an awesome job that I really, really want and feel like an a$$ for not abstaining longer, but we all have our demons. The bad (or good, depending on your perspective) is that I think I'll be random tested from here on out and don't want the stress of the last few days ever again. Ah well, it's been a great run, I need to quit smoking everything anyway before my lungs give out, and my wife will be a damn sight happier if I'm not toking.
