| So I'm getting new health insurance and got a call from a lady saying that she needs to come by my house to get a urine sample...just a urine sample, no BP, blood, etc. I could easily sub, but I'm not sure that is safe since its for health insurance. What would they be testing for? I'm pretty clean, so could dilute if I had to, but if subbing is so easy, why not? I just don't want to get a friends clean piss and find out that he has kidney problems etc and not get insurance for that... |

And hotshot, there are plenty of posts (two pages worth) in urine testing alone on HEALTH insurance testing. Some with the same question you posted. above are a few of my results. As I asked in one of the threads linked above, why don't you ask what exactly they are testing for before they come to your home (which I don't approve of anyway) to take the specimen?. |

| I agree with Sec, also if you are that worried about it just sub it as they will not watch you. That is what my buddy done, he had it in a hot bowl of water in his bathroom and went in and dumped and gave, simple and pricless ![]()

| Thanks guys. I'll call BCBS and try to find out what they are testing for. If MJ is included, I'll have a sub ready. |

| That is a great idea. I purchased a health policy from BC/BS a couple of years ago (4-5 years ago), still have the policy. I never had to take a physical, give a blood or urine specimen or anything. It wasn't like I transferred the policy from another company, I just called up BC/BS out of the blue and asked what was available for me, and picked a plan, started monthly premium payments and Wa-lah! I have health insurance. This isn't an employer sponsored plan, it is my personal health policy. Maybe in the last few years they have changed their policy on testing??? |

| yea they must have. i was covered through a work plan, recently quit to work for myself so applied while i was still covered thru the work plan. i thought since i was covered prior and had been for a while, the new company wouldn't require any testing. i was wrong..but the weird thing is that its just a urine sample, no blood or physical. my guess is that its just for nicotine, but who knows. my friend recently got BCBS as well, and he had the same situation, same results..urine test. |

| and oh yea, BCBS is administered by different companies, depending on your state...so i'm sure their testing policies etc are different for each state. |

| I have a friend who works for BC/BS and she says that they do have to conform to differing state laws. They (as much as possible) conform to the strictest state law on whatever the issue is and apply that to all the states. For example: HIPPA laws say that they cannot divulge your medical information to anyone without your expressed written consent. Some states go so far as to require that written consent from persons as young as 12 years old. That means that the 12 year old must sign a consent to allow the insurance company to discuss billing information with the 12 year old's parent. Not all states require it, but because some states do, BC/BS has all their policy holders and dependents, 12 years old and older in all states sign the consent. I'm surprised they don't apply the same principle to testing as well. |
