I'd like to thank everyone on this board for their helpful advice and assistance. I spent quite a bit of time looking for information about drug testing and until I found this forum, the credible information was SCARSE to say the least. Now that being said, here's my situation: I had a pre-employment screen on Thursday afternoon. I used Quickfix because of uncertainty regarding THC and an off topic substance that I have a prescription for (but didn't want my employer to know). I've gotten my formal offer, and have been contacted by HR (but not since the piss test) and they are VERY eager to have me start as soon as possible. I need to start my new job in 2 weeks. But because of the holiday Monday and the fact that my boss took off Friday and the upcoming Tuesday, I won't be able to notify him of my departure until Wednesday which is only a week and a half's notice. After reading some of the "no news is good news' posts, I became aware that the results may take as long as 10 days. Unfortunatley, I don't have that time to spare! Would y'all feel comfortable giving notice on the Wednesday morning after having not been contacted about any problems on the Friday or Tuesday before?

On Wednesday, contact your new employer (the one you tested for) and explain that you would like to give the old employer as much notice as possible and would like a definet start date. That might get them off their butt. The holiday messes everything up. I would wait until at least until thursday before giving notice to the old job.

Thank you Sec! Thanks for the input. I just wonder why you think it's necessary to wait. I totally respect your opinion, just curious about the experience/logic behind it (which I'm sure there is). You have been an incredibly factual source of information on this forum and I appreciate any information you could offer. I've been put in a really sticky situation here. I really care for my coworkers and my current boss. The whole office is struggling to overcome a somewhat recent loss in staff. Usually people give them a months notice but that was before the hurricane devestated this area. Now things are different, and I have to look out for myself. Not sure why I feel so bad, having not received a raise in 5+ years. Maybe a day would'nt make that much difference anyway.

I would wait also just incase somthing went wrong on the test, no need to risk being unemployed. you could also tell your boss that you will probly be leaving but you won't be sure untill tommorow. just my 2 cents

I would wait till you know for sure.I have given early notice, and then wound up losing the job I had and not getting the job I thought I was getting. And in my case it had nothing to do with a UA,wasn't smoking at the time.

The reason is simple. You tested on Thursday Your specimen traveled via overnight courrier to the lab and arrived on Friday Your specimen was tested at the lab on Friday. If your test is negative: The results were sent to the MRO Friday late pm. If the MRO didn't have time to review the test or didn't have time to post the results on Friday, then the employer must wait until at least Tuesday. If the Employer doesn't have time to retrieve the results on Tuesday, it may take until Wednesday for your new employer to review the results. If you successfully subbed with Quick Fix, you are almost guaranteed a pass. The only thing would be if they did a background check on you and found something else that could eliminate you from getting the position. If your specimen is positive (although it won't be because you used Quick Fix): It must be sent through the GC/MS. If the lab staff are off work or working very few people through the holiday, your specimen might not get tested or reported to an MRO until Tuesday. Then the MRO would need a day to review the test and call you. Say everything works well and he calls you on Tuesday. The employer may not be notified of your result until Wednesday. They may not call you at all or they may wait a day (Thursday) to call you. At this point, you are a very low priority to any employer. That is why you should wait. Holiday's are always very slow.

Thanks for the information. They are going to do a background check. I've never been arrested or anything. The way I understood the forms, these checks would have to do with criminal activity. Isn't that what they are looking for in a background check? I apreciate all the feedback. I've never been through such an excrutiating hiring process.

background checks vary from job to job things they may look for: -criminal record -driving record (likely nothing to worrry about unless you have a DUI/DWI) -credit report -verification of the contents of your appliction (job, military and education history) that should about cover it excluding govt, security clearence etc issues.

Driving record items that can come back to bite you: Excessive speeding (more than 2); means you might need to take time off work to attend court or classes. Careless/reckless driving; same as above, but also shows failute to follow rules. No insurance; shows lack of responsibility. DUI/DWI; for all the reasons stated above. Any combination or all of the above background checks can be done depending on which type if job you are applying for. The credit check is not one that will give a credit score, but rather one that will let the employer know if you are overextended. Robbing Peter to pay Paul, so to speak. If you have 16 different credit accounts, and owe on each one, a little bit, it might indicate irresponsibility in financial matters. If you are applying for a banking or accounting position, this doesn't look good. Also if the job doesn't pay enough to cover your current obligations (for single people, this is useful, but not necessarily an eliminator due to outside independent income source). Your previous employer (supervisor) may also be interviewed to determine if you are having a problem with other workers or a particular type of customer. If you are taking too much time off work or constantly trying to juggle your schedule at the last minute; all not good. SSN Trace is mostly for the benefit of both the employer and employee. It can let the employer know if the applicant has been honest regarding past residences and employment. It can also let the applicant know if someone else has used his/her SSN sometime in the past. The background check can take anywhere from two days to a week. | |
