| About me 42/M/195 lbs/slow metabolism/daily for 1 year I tested positive with the home kit after two weeks of abstinence and following the dilution sticky to a T. I’m taking diclofenac which is a prescription pain reliever. This site Drug Testing Specifics indicated diclofenac may produce a false positive. If this is the case it makes the home test worthless as a gauge of when I’ll actually be “clean”. Does anyone know how long will diclofenac will stay in my system? Is it similar to the time THC stays? Hypothetically, assuming my initial screening would have been negative but because of diclofenac causing a false positive thus requiring further confirmation testing… Would further testing in the form of a GC/MS test to lower levels – thus putting myself at further risk than if there were no false positive. This whole war on drugs is one of the stupidest things we’ve got going. Thanks for any help. |

| Looks like we have a two part answer. Immunoassay THC tests at one time would show a false positive for drugs in the NSAID class, which are NonSteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. This includes ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Nuprin), naproxen (Naprosyn), naproxen sodium (Alieve), diclofenac (Voltaren), Lodine, Relafen, etc. Ibuprofen was the number one offender of causing false positives out of this group. Over the last few years they have eliminated this problem for the most part. However, if you did get a false positive on immunoassay, GC/MS would discover this because there are no know false positives in GC/MS. GC/MS can distinguish a chemical with great accuracy if not perfectly. Now, so your next question, is the 15 ng/ml cutoff used in GC/MS more sensitive or is it going to pick up something in your urine because the immunoassay uses 50 ng/ml and even though you might not have been completely clean, you were below 50. I learned a few months ago from a post by Buzzby that the immunoassay looks for 31 metabolites of THC. I knew that the normal cutoff for the immunoassay is 50 ng/ml. I also learned that the GC/MS only looks for 1 metabolite, THC-COOH. I knew most of the cutoffs for GC/MS is 15 ng/ml. At first you would think it is harder to pass the GC/MS but it really isn't. 31 metabolites at 50ng/ml is almost the same as 1 metabolite at 15 ng/ml. If you can pass an immunoassay test at 50 ng/ml, then you will probably pass the GC/MS. |
