Default GC-MS Confirmation?

When the MRO called, he seemed almost like a sales man trying to tell me to cough up $180 to have them re-test my split sample. My question is this: what kind of test costs $180? Are you telling me that companies are coughing up $180 for every applicant that comes along? Im a nub here, please help me to understand the process. I assumed that ALL drug tests start with the cheap immunoassay test and then if its positive, they run the GC-MS test to see what was really found. But now, having gotton the "sales pitch" for the $180, I am wondering if they only ran the assay and then want another $180 to do the GC confirmation. Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!

Wow, I never heard of this. $180 is extremely expensive for one thing, and for another, the MRO is supposed to be totally independent of any laboratory. How he even knows the pricing or where you want the specimen to go is improper, to say the least.

I am understanding that you failed the original drug test? Did the MRO at least tell you that?

IF this was an employment or pre-employment test, take your story to the employer and complain. Imply to the employer that you believe that the MRO is acting improper and is setting you up as a supply of funds.

One thing though, Is the MRO a company employee? In other words, is the MRO also an employee of the Company you applied to or work for?

If so, then that is a horse of another color. The MRO would not be taking monetary gain from another lab if he worked for an employer exclusively.

only extremely large corporations can afford to employ a full time MRO.

Hello-
The company I am applying to, sent me to Concentra to collect the void.
They then sent it to ATN (Advanced Toxicology). On that sheet it named the MRO.

The MRO just said that THC was present in my urine and "when did I smoke last"...I said at least 60 days ago and he said thats not physiologically possible (sorry spelling). And I said "well it must be sir, becuase I am clean". I then said "I am on effexor and omerprazole, could either of those cuased a false positive" ...he said no. Then he said if I thought that the lab tech made a mistake, I could have the sample tested again for $180. I said that I would talk to my employer and see what we wanted to do. So my employer gave me another 10 days and then I went back through the process and got the same results. But no one has ever told me if they got a positive on the Assay and then again with a confirmation.

So one of my questions is: Do they always confirm the results with the GC/MS test and thus THAT is what the MRO reported to me, or did they only find a positive on the assay and base the results on that solely and then offer to do a confirmation test for the $180.

When I asked the mro, he said I have to ask the employer because thats who paid for it.

So tomorow morning, I will be calling the employer to get the actual results.

So that's my story. Thank you for your help!
