First off I want to thank the peps on this board! I've been lurking around here for a week or so and have found some great info.

OK, now for a few questions. I got an interview and drug screen coming up in a few days for the postal service. I believe they will do an on-site collection. I planned on subbing because I figured I wouldn't be watched, but after reading here- Drug Testing:: Urine Specimen Collection Handbook ,I see that they can observe if they think its necessary. I have a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charge from 3 years back (Marijuana). Any idea if this may warrant a observed collection? Just got my Quick Fix but I am concerned about using it now. Also if I can get past that first screen, then theres a medical examination. Does anyone know if another drug test is performed there? And last, lets just say I got through those 2 tests. Whats the odds of having to do random screens because of my past?

I don't know if they observe for their drug testing, but they supposedly do a criminal background check. Go to USPS.com and check out their drug testing policy and regulations.

Yea I know about the BG check. Thats kinda why I think they might want to observe. Hell, they may not even want me after the BG check.
They don't go into much detail on USPS.com unless it's for an inspector. Thanks for the input.

The use of an observer may occur only when: (1) A previous drug test was reported either positive for a drug, dilute, adulterated, substituted, unsuitable for testing, or canceled because the split specimen was not tested; (2) The drug test is a return-to-duty or a follow-up test; (3) The agency/employer believes that the donor may alter or substitute the specimen to be provided; or (4) During a routine collection, the temperature of the specimen collected is outside the acceptable range, the collector observed materials brought to the collection site or donor conduct indicated a possible attempt to adulterate or substitute a specimen, or the collector believes that the specimen has been adulterated (e.g., the specimen is blue, exhibits excessive foaming when shaken, has smell of bleach). Note: The observer must be the same gender as the donor even if the observer has a medical background/training. The collector may serve as the observer when the collector is the same gender as the donor. If not, the collector must call upon another individual (who is the same gender as the donor) to act as the observer. Note: With regard to chain of custody, the observer must never touch/handle the collection container. After the donor has completed urinating into the collection container, the donor and observer leave the enclosed toilet stall/restroom and the donor hands the collection container directly to the collector. Note: The observer must maintain visual contact of the collection container until the donor hands the container to the collector. Note: If the observer and collector are one and the same, the collector may receive the collection container from the donor while they are both in the enclosed toilet stall/restroom. The collector continues with the collection procedure, checks the box for an observed collection in Step 2 on the CCF, and provides the name of the observer and the reason for an observed collection on the "Remarks" line in Step 2 on the CCF. A separate sheet explaining the use of an observed collection may be attached to the CCF if there is insufficient room on the "Remarks" line.

Did you fail a previous drug test for this employer? There is virtually no way that a private employer can find results of your drug test done for court. They can find your offense (misdemeanor), but not your drug test results. They have no cause to observe unless you give them one on this test.

I don't think they would eliminate you for a drug charge if you test clean.

Try my backround check, I have a simple assault charge you know how hard it is to get employed with that? I can't smoke for a year but that has nothing to do with some jobs and my resume is excellent.

You should be fine with a clean test.

But just my opnion

had a test today and they watched looking throught the door crack behind me. They were scoping me because the guy siad allright .. the second i finished


not a postal job, but took it at a hospital.
