Dr Strangelove

I just found out that my drug test for medical residency requires me to go to a collection agency (any agency -- could be student health, LabCorp, etc: I'm choosing LabCorp). Once there, they have to fill out the usual Chain of Custody form, marking my gender. LabCorp won't be testing my sample, just verifying that I peed into the cup provided by my University Hospital. LabCorp does have to note the temperature of the sample, but that's it.

Then I have to mail off the cup of pee back to the University Hospital, where the drug test will be done.

My question is: would a university hospital be able to detech synthetic urine in quick fix 4.0, or a gender difference if I decide to sub with my wife's clean urine?

My thoughts are no, and no, but I wanted to confirm with you guys. I have read multiple threads, but none seem to have a University Hospital doing the test, and none involve mailing the sample.

QF is indistinguishable from human urine in any laboratory drug test. Drug tests do not detect gender.

What I find odd is that they hand you the sample so that you can mail it. It's odd for two reasons. It breaks the chain of custody and urine begins to break down at room temperature within eight hours.

About the only way to distinguish QF from real urine is that it doesn't chemically degrade at room temperature.

Drug testing devices have no ability to determine gender, nor if the sample is synthetic or human. Only a genetic test can make that determination.

Any form of genetic testing is outside the scope of drug testing and therefore its illegal for labs (US) to run genetic tests on a sample thats collected for a drug test, unless the donor gives written permission. The lab can only test for drug metabolites, pH, creatinine, specific gravity and excessive nitrites.

Actually, it doesn't require anything that advanced. They can test for hormones in the urine sample that will reveal the gender of the subject.

Uh, doesn't that violate your medical privacy/privaledges/etc.? I thought from what I read here that you are ONLY giving consent to test for drugs, not anything else.

btw, do you have hard facts on urine degradation. just wondering, because I can't find anything in the med literature.
