I just got accepted for a job that I really need to get and I have to complete a physical before April 20th. I have been a pretty regular smoker for the last few months. The test should just be a normal urinalysis.

I have already started reading up on everything and I plan to start exercising and drinking lots of water everday. Just gonna go to the gym and play basketball and probably run a lot. I have a pretty high metabolism.

I am really worried about this, and I could use any advice. From what I have read it seems that the detox drinks don't really work.

Also where would I get a home test from?

Most routine physicals don't include drug testing. You may just be having a screening urinalysis for health purposes, looking for blood or protein in the urine...not drugs.
Or....you might be taking a drug test.

Assuming the worst, abstain, and think ahead towards dilution or subbing. Read up on both, check out the stickies in Urine Testing. I like to get home tests from ebay. Just search under "home drug tests". Buy a bunch of them, they're super cheap. In the meantime, try to find out if they're drug testing or not.

Yeah I have already stopped smoking and actually started running today. Have been meaning to exercise recently and this is a good impetus to start.

I have the actual form that the physician is supposed to fill out and it just says urinalysis and has a spot for Glucose, protein, and then there is box for occult blood.

I plan on just doing the dilution technique anyway.

Is there anyway to find out if it is a drug test or not? I guess I would be safe just calling a random doctor and asking their office?

If the lab slip says "urinalysis and has a spot for Glucose, protein, and then there is box for occult blood" then that's all they're testing for. If it's one of those lab slips with every test possible listed on it and they check off what they want, then you can probably even see where the drug test check-off box is, and see it's not checked. Or sometimes they don't even have it on the standard slip b/c they have to send it out elsewhere. But a drug test is not a part of a routine UA or physical. But if you want to make anonymous phone calls, another MD won't know and you probably won't get ahold of the MD, just the office staff. You can call the lab, just tell them you're "[some name] calling from [some local MD's office] wondering about how to get some test ordered..." or whatever...

But overall I'm in a similar boat- I have a "pre-employment physical" coming up, no drug test ordered specifically and b/c the employer is, and physical will be done at, a hospital, I don't have any instructions to go to some lab with some form, or anything, so I don't know... abstaining and diluting in case but mostly hoping there's no drug test.

Well thats the thing, I am not actually going to a specific MD. They just give me the slip and I go to any licensed doctor in my area. So I figured if I just explained what was on the slip, they could tell me what is going to be on it.

What does the term 'occult blood' mean? It doesn't have anything to do witha drug test?

Oh and just in case someone in here might know, it is actually a physical for the JET program...

Hehe. Occult blood is usually a poop smear. Occult just means, like, not obvious.

Urinalysis is just pH, specific gravity, nitrites, ketones, protien, leukocytes, umm.. I don't remember what else but not drugs.

Also, I am curious if there are any laws about getting any kind of warning about testing- or just that they have to tell you they are doing it when they get the sample. Probably just that they have to tell you right when they get it... Blah. This is all nonsense.
