I took a pre-employment drug test this past Tuesday. I smoke regularly and I smoked a bowl on Sunday last week. I drank a bottle of The Liquid Stuff and filled the bottle twice with water two hours before the test and, as it says, urinated frequently. I really, really need this job and am really freaked out that I might not pass it.

The guy at the hospital said that lots of medications cause a false positive and that the lab they sent the sample off to should contact me if it's positive and ask for a list of medications I am taking. (I guess the anaprox I take and the Tylenol PM that I take might affect it) I haven't heard anything yet from anyone (the lab, the hospital, the employer) and I'm supposed to start on Monday at the new job.

What do you think my chances are of passing? If it turns out to be positive and they tell me on Monday, what should I say regarding the medicines? If you can tell me anything that would possibly ease my mind, it would be mucho appreciated. Thanks.

There is no medication you take that will test positive for marijuana. Unless you are taking a synthetic cannabis for severely advanced cancer patients, you eill probably fail the test, or at the very least show a diluted result. Given that Good Friday was a holiday and most MRO's were closed that day, the MRO for this employer may contact you on Monday, maybe even at the employer's office, on your first day.

There is nothing you can say except "bye". Sorry, this doesn't ease your mind, I know. But I also feel you would want to know the truth.

You have only about a 10% chance of actually passing this test being that you are a regular smoker with less than 48 hours clean at the time of the test. I give you the 10% because of the diluted pee you actually gave at the time of your test.

The rest of the story:
I worked at a place for two years until two weeks ago. They told us on Wednesday that they were closing on Friday. So, with two days notice, I began job searching because not having a job in not an option. Shitty deal all around.

I worked for two years with the employer I just did the drug test for, a job I have really missed since I quit. I would have quit smoking if I would have had the time. Ugh. This situation completely sucks but thanks for your response.

i'm hoping a miracle happens and you are able to pass. if not my advice would be to stop now and abstain until you find a job another job and pass the test for sure. i know it will work out for you in the long run.

Still freaking out here. I guess I'll just go in tomorrow. They probably won't let me work if they haven't got the test results. I don't know. I can't relax at all. This totally sucks. I plan to stop smoking if this job doesn't work out and get clean so I can get a good job. I can collect unemployment for a few while I get clean. I really just hope that I passed the test. Grr. My specimen was pretty light in color. Many of my friends passed their tests with The Liquid Stuff. I am just seriously at my wits end.

i know how shitty this period is. just try to relax, not think about it, and find other things to occupy your mind. stay sober until you get the job you want, after a while it is not so bad if you find other things to do. and most importantly don't let the man bring you down or he wins! stick it to that s.o.b.

Hey, just checking in.

I went to work today and worked all day. They didn't mention anything about the pre-employment drug screen that I took last Tuesday. They also made me a name badge with my picture on it that costs $25 to replace if you lose it.

Do you think they would have gotten the results back by now and that it was negative and everything is cool?

Do you think they would have let me work today without having the results?

I didn't ask about it, obviously. Thanks again, for any feedback.

I don't mean to seem pushy cause I'm usually not at all but can someone give me their thoughts on the questions in my last post? I need to go to sleep soon and this, honestly, has been one for the most stressful weeks of my life. My own fault, yes, but still...

Just because you're working doesn't mean your clear of a drug test. I was let go from a job a week after taking a drug test, working the whole week. And that badge probably only cost them like 50 cents. Hoping the best for you, my next test is next week.

You might have been one of the very lucky ones. some people can test negative in a very short period of time after smoking pot. Others take a very long time to test negative. I might have been wrong.

I don't mean to be a damper on the party, but this past weekend was a holiday, and most MRO's were closed over both Friday and Monday.

I'm sorry, I can't be of more reassurance to you. I just don't know. I feel as if there should be no way you should have passed, but still, I have seen where others have been able to do it.

One thing, losing sleep worrying about this is helping nothing. Since there is nothing you can do about the situation, try not to think about it. If the job was meant to be, it will be.
