Hey folks,

I just landed this great job and started Monday. Ive had a horrible headcold all week that Ive been medicating myself for. I have in the past, but not in the last 12 days been known to toke occasionally, maybe a bowl 1-2 a week if my bf has it. I bought 2 home kits last week and tested myself last Thursday....negatve. Then today I get told to pee in a cup for the test....I did and I got to watch the results happen with my administrator....the lines start appearing to show negative results for coke and all the other big boys....then for the THC....a faint pink line shows up....and I think YES! Im in the clear....but she looks at me and says, do you smoke marijuana, and I say no, I dont use any illegal drugs. She then says, she will have to send it to the lab for verification. She asks me what I have been taking to help with my cold...I tell her sudafed and vicks.....shes says, well, thats why.....we will send this to the lab and they will confirm that for us. I go home today and open my other home test, take it and once again it is negative.

WHAT ARE MY CHANCES THAT THIS TEST SENT TO THE LAB RETURN NEGATIVE AND I KEEP MY DREAM JOB???

THANKS EVERYONE! and if your so inclined....pray for me....Im a single mom and this job is life changing.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about the testing. Also if I understood correctly, it sounded like it showed positive at the collection facility and they sent it to the lab for confirmation?

All I can do is commiserate (sp?) and I will pray for you and all others here in similar situations.

Tests:

1. Last Thursday at home control red line/test area pink line-should be negative
2. Test today at work (I work at a hospital), control area red line/test area pink line- should be negative, but the administrator said it was a faint line and needs to be confirmed.
3. Test tonight at home, control area red line/test area pink line- should be negative.

With this info would you know if the sample taken from me at work today, that should have in my opinion been a negative result, but sent to the lab regardless...will it produce a negative result as the others.......let me know if that makes sense, or I will reword.....thanks!

I would ask for another test (tell them when you're off meds) and then substitute.

Thanks Dr. Strangelove....I certainly hope that if the results come back positive, they will allow me to retest......you dont think I should already be asking for a retest?? I dont want to look guilty, but I definately think I should be defensive....whats your thought?

Chill out. You just got an overly paranoid collector. The lab should confirm that the test is negative.

Vicks sometimes can be misinterpreted by an instant test as amphetamines, but not THC; and certainly the Sudafed won't be interpreted as THC.

Your collector/administrator is either very stupid or is milking the employer for extra bucks to send to the lab.

You should be fine.

I send instant tests to the lab quite often when I am not sure the line is there or not and it isn't photocopying well enough to see. Usually, a very faint line is a negative. A line that appeared like you say, should also be negative as well. Especially since you were testing negative as early as last week.

Post the results when you know.

That is exactly what asking for a retest before the test results come in would look like and it would probably be ineffective. You should be confident you are clean and not asking for a retest. If they took a split sample, there is what they would probably use for the retest, if they even felt like giving a retest. But that is getting way ahead of yourself. Like Sec3 said, the faint line will probably come back as negative.

If you know you have to take a drug test at any point in the future quit smoking! Read the stickies and never start up again until you're completely in the clear, you never know if you might have to retest due to an error.
If in doubt, ask yourself this question: What's more important, getting out of the mess you're in or getting high?
