Hey all-

Ive been reading your threads for several weeks now and I am still unclear about the "Faint Lines" on the home test kits.

I know the kits say any line is a neg.

Can I get multiple opinions on feedback.

I have tested 3 times since 2.5 weeks of almost quitting, although I have smoked maybe a 1/2 gram in this time. 3 times faint line results negative.

I've been a heavy smoker for the last 3 years-6 joints/day
Been drinking lots of water, (usually do anyway cuz I'm always thirsty...lol), some cranberry juice and I did a 7 day detox program from GNC the first week.

Im feeling the pressure on getting this thing completed from HR although I'm still doing the delay game. I might be able to milk it another week max.

Any feedback from heavy smokers would be great.

Like many others here, I'm freakin out, and I wanna get this thing done so I can resume my brain cell death.

If you have taken a home test, you should have a vile with a double label on it and a pre addressed box. Peal the duplicate label of stick it to the booklet and mail the sample to the lab. It takes 5-7 business days to come back. You can call the lab and they will give you an exact ng/ml. You need to be under 50ng/ml for most pre-employment wizquizs.

I had taken a home test and it showed a faint line. I sent it to the lab and it came back positive. They told me they test at a 15ng/ml when the sample is sent to the their lab. While the test is set at 50ng/ml. They also told me my actual # was 54ng/ml. I was told when it is that close you have the greatest chance of the test giving a false neg.

Yeah- most of the tests are only good for telling you if you are 50% above the 50 ng mark (they say they aren't very reliable at or near the cut-off level.) Do the math- that means if you pass, you could be anywhere between 50-75ngs and still get busted. If you have time, send it to the lab. Also- quit smokin!

I'm not sure what Lizza is talking about, but if there's a line there's a line. I was getting faintish lines around 20ng so honestly the line type isn't a very good method of judging, only if there is a genuine line there or not. If you can produce a line that's good enough for most pre-emp tests honestly, cause a line means technically you pass. If they're really anal about it you might your sample sent to a lab but most pre-emps don't automatically do that cause its expensive for them.

If its a ghost line, one that you really have to work at seeing you might be in trouble, but if you can tell its red and there you should be okay. Maybe do some minor dilution to help it out, or sub since its a pre-emp and not usually observed.

Also, do quit smoking until this whole thing is over, that's just ruining your chances.

If you know you have to take a drug test at any point in the future quit smoking! Read the stickies and never start up again until you're completely in the clear, you never know if you might have to retest due to an error.

I wish I had thought after the first neg. home test to send it in just to get an exact ng/ml reading. I don't think I have enuf time to wait the 5-7 days to get a response from the mail order lab thing.

I was wondering if any1 knew of over the counter test kits that will actually measure ng/ml? Also, is it possible to goto a test lab on my own and say I want to test myself and get my own results that way?

Oh yeah- I asked my wife to take a test just to see how her red line came out as she is a non-smoker. Hers looked just like mine on the same brand test kit...I feel pretty good about that.

I have worked for this company for almost 4 years as a contractor and just recenly went employee which involved a drug test. If they told me prior to making the change, I would have abstained for at least a month.

Thanks for the dilluting tips, but I think the whole process would be very difficult as I travel for work and drinking 3 quarts of water on a plane flight prior to testing would be insane, especially not knowing what the wonderful airlines have instore for that day and the timing could be thrown into a tailspin! (PUN intended...lol)

One more thing- I'm scheduled for a LABCO SAP-5 test and after reviewing the website it shows the should be looking for 50ng/ml unless it goes MRO in which they look for 15ng/ml.

Personally, I wouldn't take the chance and the upset stomach trying to figure out how dark a line is good enough. Point is, if you were an employer or tester, and you saw a line that wasn't as dark as the control, you could pretty safely assume that person had smoked MJ, and you would want to get an actual #. I'm not trying to scare you guys, just trying to give an honest assessment. This was the reason I decided to sub after 40 days abstaining. It just wasn't worth the risk, even with faint lines.

wrong. Any line is a negative. Even very faint lines, when sent to a lab will come back as negative 99% of the time.

And.... even if a specimen was subjected to an instant test at the collection facility, then sent to a lab, it still gets the same testing process with the immunoassay at the lab. If no indication of prior use at 50ng/mL, then it does not go through confirmation (GC/MS).

I tried to order a test myself. The lab told me my doctor would need to order the test. I asked my Doctor, who I have an open relationship with, to order the test. He ordered a tox screen. My only concern is that a prespective employer would be able to access this info if it comes out positive. I took the test last Tuesday and my Doctor went on vacation until Monday. AARGG, more waiting.

You don't need to see a doctor to order tests. Look in the yellowpages under drug testing or employer services. You might even be able to do an online search using the key word "drug testing" to find a collection/testing site near you.

I am thinking you asked your local hospital or medical clinic lab if you could test. They usually don't pick their noses without a doctor referral. Just do this on your own.

Also, your test results, whether from a doctor or anyone else cannot be revealed to anyone. I do testing for several employers. If an applicant comes to test for one employer and fails the drug test, isn't hired, then later, comes in to test for another employer, I cannot reveal the first test results to the second employer. I must give another test as if the applicant had never been in our facility before.

No one but the person who orders/pays for the tests can obtain the results. Look around, there are plenty of independent urine collection facilities who can help you out without being referred by a physician.
