I recently took a drug test but was not supplied enough synthetic urine in my quick-fix 4.0 bottle to pass the test. Had I not urinated more in it they would have thrown the bottle out and I would have had to restest (without my quick fix bottle)

The only thing I could do was a pinch of my own (dirty) pee to the bottle. I was just short of the line and brought it up to just where it needed to be. All together I probably added .25-.5 oz of my own urine, and that may even be slightly high. I'm an everyday smoker but I did drink quite a bit of water so I could actually "go" during the test for noise/realism concerns.

So, I have a small amount of dirty but slightly diluted batch of my own urine and the remaining portion was the quick fix 4.0. Should I be worried?

if you have another QF bottle go get a test kit and do the same thing and test it then you know

No additional QF, but I considered using clean urine/water and then my own urine to see if it work work. I'm assuming the clean urine would be better but clean urine is hard to come by for me so I may have to try water.

Well I got the results today and I failed. I don't know how that could have happened, QF 4.0 is supposed to be great. Has anyone else had the same problem I did?

You failed because you peed in the cup and your pee was very dirty.

The collector will always ask for more than they need. They only need about 1-2 ounces; never more than this. They usually ask for 3-4 ounces.

This wasn't by choice I'm afraid.

This was a standard DOT test that required two ounces. There wasn't two ounce in the QF bottle, and they said they would pour it out if it wasn't two ounces or more. I saw on the label where the two ounce mark was, so the lady wasn't trying to get more out of me for no reason. There was no water in the room so I couldn't add that (obviously) so I did the only thing I could do.

Now that I have the results back I'm more curious to see if anyone has had the problem of QF not giving them enough to urine to pass the test.

I have used the Quick Fix many times for DOT testing and there was always enough. I think it is 45ml that is required.

The standard DOT test does require 45mL. No more, no less. Hawg is correct. That is approximately 1 and 1/2 ounces. The collector COULD NOT throw out your specimen if it contained 45 mL. (BTW, that is approximately 1/2 inch from the bottom of the standard collection cup (and the collection cups are ALL the same size). You screwed yourself and your collector psyched you out.

Parts 40 and 382 are what you should be most interested in. Also part 391. Take your time, look at everything. Below is a preview of a section of Part 40:

Subpart E - Urine Specimen Collections § 40.71 How does the collector prepare the specimens? (a) All collections under DOT agency drug testing regulations must be split specimen collections. (b) As the collector, you must take the following steps, in order, after the employee brings the urine specimen to you. You must take these steps in the presence of the employee. (1) Check the box on the CCF (Step 2) indicating that this was a split specimen collection. (2) You, not the employee, must first pour at least 30 mL of urine from the collection container into one specimen bottle, to be used for the primary specimen. (3) You, not the employee, must then pour at least 15 mL of urine from the collection container into the second specimen bottle to be used for the split specimen. (4) You, not the employee, must place and secure (i.e., tighten or snap) the lids/caps on the bottles. (5) You, not the employee, must seal the bottles by placing the tamper-evident bottle seals over the bottle caps/lids and down the sides of the bottles. (6) You, not the employee, must then write the date on the tamper-evident bottle seals. (7) You must then ensure that the employee initials the tamper-evident bottle seals for the purpose of certifying that the bottles contain the specimens he or she provided. If the employee fails or refuses to do so, you must note this in the “Remarks” line of the CCF (Step 2) and complete the collection process. (8) You must discard any urine left over in the collection container after both specimen bottles have been appropriately filled and sealed. There is one exception to this requirement: you may use excess urine to conduct clinical tests (e.g., protein, glucose) if the collection was conducted in conjunction with a physical examination required by a DOT agency regulation. Neither you nor anyone else may conduct further testing (such as adulteration testing) on this excess urine and the employee has no legal right to demand that the excess urine be turned over to the employee.
