I have to take a pre-employment drug screening in the upcoming weeks and I was hoping for some feedback. I am wondering are they usually monitered and was your pre-employment drug test monitered or did they just send you to the WC and ask you to pee. I have done some research and I have an opinion, but I dont want to swaye you in either direction.

I think it usually has to do with what type of company you're dealing with and what kind of position you're applying for. Bigger companies will more than likely have someone there to check you, but I doubt a small firm would, best thing to do is play it safe and assume they do.

It is a small company from out of state and they are having me test at a local clinic. I would be the first employee they have ever sent to this clinic. I was thinking about calling or having a friend call to get some info from them about what types of testing they offer and if it can be monitored. I dont know if this is too obvious as it sounds like it is a doctors office. Hey you never know I may just be able to use my own void too and not have to dilute or sub, but 2 weeks clean after years of smoking i doubt it.

it all depends on what test place it is.. every place has a different setup.. usually the both of you go into a room and inside that room theres either another little bathroom that u go into or theres a toilet that is just covered with some screens.. either way they are right outside listening to wat you do

bby screens im assuming u mean a screan over the toilet, so u cant put ur test cup into the toilet? If there is a camera or two way mirror they have to let you know about that right? I mean to be observed while using the restroom and not signing anything or being made aware that they can watch you void has to be against the law.

oh no i meant to say curtains or soemthing they put up around the toilet.. so its not like theres walls or anything seperating u and the lab person.. no i dont think theyll have cameras or mirrors anythingn like that.. but if ur thinking about subbing i think it would be pretty hard . like i mentioned they are right outside and could hear wat ur doing.. u would probably have to be pissing into the toilet and at the same time doing the substitution.. thats pretty tough id say.. =P

Most pre-employment test aren't observed.

MONITORING is done for a mulitstall bathroom or a bathroom that has two exits (like a shared bathroom in an office suite)

OBSERVATION is done when you have either failed a previous test for that company or are taking a return-to-duty or probation testing.

They should not monitor any test that has a single stall, single door restroom. Only someone that has a medical technician license or doctor can monitor the opposite sex. Only the same sex (no matter what the title) can observe a test.

The employer doesn't decide what is monitored or not, the situation does.

Thank you once again sec Informative and to the point. I am thinking this is going to be a monitered test at best, but I was thinking of having a friend who works in an HR department call the clinic and ask them what type of testing they offer.
