| Ok...I took a job at a small 12 person design firm, I went to the interview and about two days later I received a job offer in my e-mail that declared all the different types of benefits, salary, etc. I would essentially be starting in about a month. At no time during my many inquisitions concerning pre-employment information did the word or implication of a drug test ever come up. Ok...so I accepted the job and still I did not hear any information about the test, essentially it was just a "great, can't wait to see you on your first day". What does this mean concerning drug testing? Also, I do not know anyone who works at the place so getting info. ahead of time is close to impossible without sounding completely guilty. Also, can a company drug test on the first day if they have not mentioned it ahead of time? I am staring at an ounce of white widow, want to smoke it so bad, but i wanted to hear some suggestions as what i should do. Thanks in advance |

| Don't smoke it. Just wait. Yes, they can test you on your first day without ever mentioning "drug test" in prior meetings. Chances are they won't; but you can never be positive. If this is the job you really want, then wait. It will be so much more sweeter if you get to keep the job AND smoke the pot. 1 month isn't so long, just store the "white widow" in a secure, proper manner. |

It was my understanding that it is within your rights as an applicant to request and receive a written "pre-employment process policy" from the hiring manager. Say it is "for filing/documentational purposes". The hiring policy should contain any requirements for candidates for employment, including drug screen and/or background check details . I know it is not a 100% occurance, but it is my understanding that this is somewhat of a standard procedure nowadays. Feel free to correct me, because I am also seeking confirmation on this.
